Written option: During the media portion of mini-camp, your player was asked what you did over the offseason. For this PT, describe what your player did during that time. Did you take your family to the Bahamas (or some other location)? Did you discover a new hobby? Anything to be able to describe a fun (or horrible) offseason!
Octavio Pérez was born in the Netherlands to a Dutch Mother and a Costa Rican Father. Despite this he actually never had visited Costa Rica before. This offseason he was given a golden opportunity when he was invited to co-host an American Football bootcamp event in San José, the capital of Costa Rica. Pérez instantly accepted to co-host and work as a wide receiver coach during the event. He took the opportunity to invite his parents on the trip as well, to experience his fathers home country together.
The camp was a great success in Pérez mind. The kids seemed to be very excited at the opportunity to learn about the sport and to have a chance to train with the pro players who had been invited. As Wide Receiver coach it was Pérez responsibility to show off that position. He ran drills with the kids and explained his responsibilities in that role.
After every training day, Pérez and his parents would go out into the country. He got to meet family he had only ever seen on photos. They visited the town his father grew up in and even got to visit the house he had grown up in.
Pérez believes this was a great opportunity to expand the reach of the sport and hopes to see more Costa Rican athelets join the ISFL in the future.
