To begin, I joined the main ISFL server about a week ago after seeing an ad for it on Reddit. I have been a part of sim leagues in the past, and the concept of the league intrigued me. It was also encouraging to see the league healthy and thriving, with like a thousand users or something. When I joined, I was greeted by quite a few people (and immediately told to join the DSFL discord, which is where I’ve done nearly all my activity for the league) Additionally, I recognized a couple people from other sim football leagues, so connecting with them made the introduction process easier and even more friendlier. The scouting process made my introduction much nicer, as it felt like most of the teams had a captain or scout dm me. It was super nice to talk about my goals within the league with them, and it felt like I was learning more about the league with each conversation. I’m quite content with my player’s early start, as I like my position (running back) and I feel like the receiving archetype gives me a lot of diverse areas to grow. The power back seemed like it would lock me into being short yardage, lendale white-esque back, but the speed back seemed like it had a very limited growth tree. Now, I’m writing this paragraph only a couple hours after being drafted to Tijuana. It was very cool seeing my guy get picked, and it was much sooner than I expected. My team has been super welcoming so far, as they helped me sort out my update page and get set within the league. In fact, they recommended me to do these tasks to earn some easy TPE. I think the league’s welcoming process in the offseason works quite well, and as long as the community stays together and passionate, the league should continue succeeding in this regard.

Kyle Bessey, my player, was born in the greater Los Angeles, CA area. He had always dreamed of being a professional football player, and before that, a star at the University of Southern California. He worked very hard as a youth, but wasn’t always completely focused on football. He trained in all sports, such as baseball and basketball on top of football, and was forced to maintain good grades as well. This taught him to have a hard work ethic, and when he started to hone in on football in high school, he quickly excelled. Though he never managed to get the elusive fifth star via the recruiting services, he had a number of programs requesting his services. These were all over the country, ranging from the middle of nowhere in South Bend, Indiana (thanks Notre Dame) to his hometown Trojans. There were even some (primarily southeast-based) teams offering to give him large amounts of money, violating NCAA rules. However, he decided to spend his next four years at USC, and immediately went to work in Coach Lincoln Riley’s offense. He feasted on the PAC-12 defenses, as he went from All-American freshman honors his freshman year to winning the Biletnikoff award during his senior season. However, until his final few games, a national title eluded him. He had made it his goal very early on in his collegiate career, as he would only have four shots at the precious collegiate playoff. USC didn’t even make it his first couple seasons, as they were beaten by the Mormons of Utah in the PAC-12 title game his first two seasons. His junior year, they finally won the PAC-12 only to have been bested by the Georgia Bulldogs in the playoff. All his efforts came to fruition during his aforementioned spectacular senior season as he captained the Trojans to the natty. Bessey is excited for the next chapter of his journey, as he left it all out there at the collegiate level and plans to do the same at the ISFL.
