Task 2.
I feel like I'm going to kind of be cheating, and also handicapping myself, by picking the task to write about my draft class. As a member of this current draft class, it's absolutely amazing (and also mind blowing) to see a class of over 100 people - with a lot of them being first generation players. I'll be honest, I was trying to lay low in rookie discord so I wouldn't get scouted much, so I didn't have a lot of interaction with the new guys much. But, one of the things I know from my days in the SHL is that a massive reddit draft has the potential to shape the future of the league for years to come.
With a major draft class like this, it's amazing the amount of growth it really does to a league. Some people will create, go inactive, and might see another recruitment post later that gets them back. Some people go inactive, and they get an email about a private message that they were drafted, and that gets them back. Some people go full steam ahead from day one, burn out, and then go inactive. Sometimes they come back.
Then you have the people who fall in love, and stick with it. We already have some first gen players who have league jobs. That's pretty damn impressive, when you really stop and think about it. I'm hoping some are already thinking of management positions. A draft this size, you could easily end up with two dozen GM/Co positions filled over the coming seasons. We're not even talking long term, like HO positions, or head position jobs.
There's also the content that comes from all these users. The league is much better off with all of the media, and with the graphics submissions, that will come because of this class. A draft like this will always bring in some new users from other leagues, as well, which can also lead to more users from those leagues creating at some point in the future.
I think one of the things I'm most interested in with this draft, and that would really be determined if everyone that was drafted stays active, is if there is any chance that the league would consider an expansion team out of this class. Amount of people that stay active can potentially form their own team, and it would give the league a good chance to expand and to further have room for another big class like this.
So I guess one of the things that I'm trying to say, without having any specific way to say it, is that a massive draft like this will end up being beneficial to the league for, potentially, calendar years to come. Between people recreating, people bring their friends in, and people chiming in on future recruitment post there is vast potential for this class to influence the size of the league and the direction of the league for a very long time to come.
With all that being said, I wish the best of luck to all of my fellow draftees, and I hope to see all of them thrive in their team and when they get drafted to the Major Leagues. There is a very wonderful opportunity for the same league to thrive, grow, and to benefit for this class. Also, there is a big hope that this class will stay active and chime in on the future Reddit recruitment posts which will help to generate even more interest in the league from outside sources. Have you seen it in another League, I know how useful the Reddit drafts can be in shaping the community, and the perspective of the league moving forward.
And it's because of this, that I am so proud to be a member of this draft class. I wish all of you the best of luck, and many championships during your careers.
