Athletic accomplishment and academia are not antithetical areas. In other words, if you want to be a successful athlete, you ought to apply yourself to being as smart as possible. Understanding your body can help you to maximize your career. Understanding probabilities, angles, acceleration, force, and being able to manipulate these things are essential in order to be a successful athlete. Applying yourself to learning new words, memorizing information, and proving your knowledge of a subject by performing well on an assessment are all highly valuable skills in the world of professional sports. All this to say, preparing for a life as a professional athlete is a lot more than just going to the gym nonstop. There are plenty of amazing physical specimen in the world who will never make it in the world of professional sports because they can't keep up with the mental side of things. So, if you really want to prepare for a life as a professional athlete, spend just as much effort shaping your mind as you are shaping your body. If you do make it, you'll be glad you did, as this may just be what sets you apart from those around you and helps you go far.

I mean their parents are right, professional sports is tough business to try get in to. But what would I say to yhe kid? I mean, the physical side of yhe game, that you can work on. That's why you see me in gym, down on the running track. It's mental side where you don't want to be playing catch up. It's ral important to keep attending class, keep up that grade point average. Now their parents may think this is because, you know, if they don't make it to the ISFL there is always something to fall back on. But for me, aim high. English classes may be boring but there are so many inspirational books from sports. In science class, think about what foods are good and bad for a footballer. Math, think about game stats. Push hard in school and it will pay off, you only got one chance so make the most of it.

There’s absolutely no problem with going all guns blazing at something, especially if you genuinely have the ability, work ethic and intention to become the very best at it. However, backup plans are always incredibly important and I think that would be Glenn Smart’s advice. It’s hard to juggle both things at once but ultimately, you’re going to be juggling things your entire life as a professional athlete anyway. There’s media, charity work, training, film review… if you can’t juggle playing at the lower level and maintaining grades then the chances are, you’ll never make it at the pro level anyway. That’s just a simple fact of life.
Put in the time on both fronts and you’ll be rewarded, regardless of the outcome. Worst case scenario is that you get yourself into a decent college on your academic merit but the best case is living a life most people can only dream of. Successful people hedge their position, at all times. The ones that don’t have usually just been lucky to that point and that will come to an end eventually. Code: 181 words
Big Slammu has been a mentor for the youth for a long time. Unfortunately he has had numerous incidents dating back to highschool the prove Big Slammu shouldn't be anybody's mentor. There's a young man in particular that has been really taken under Big Slammu's wing. He is about to lose his scholarship opportunity to play football at Wyoming just like Slammu did. Slammu could have taken the opportunity to tell him to work harder or something but instead he is telling the young kid to just go straight for the DSFL, as that is what Slammu has done and it turned out great for him. Slammu has won 3 Ultimus Bowl's and has made millions of dollars. His young protege is just seeing dollar signs right now and has decided to ignore his education and put all his eggs into the basket of football. We are not sure if Slammu is setting him up for failure or success but we will see how the kid does.

So you think you have what it takes to make it in the fish eat fish world that is the ISFL. Well let's get one thing straight, vaguely named young relative: if you're gonna make it in my world, you have to be able to succeed in your world first. Don't worry about making it on the field if you're not going to be able to see the field because of academic ineligibility. Why dream of hitting the gym when you still need to focus on hitting the BOOKS? Even if you were the greatest thing to ever hit the football field, nothing in this life is guaranteed, so the importance of a back up plan cannot be overstated. Every good backup plan starts by being informed; remember with football nothing is a given and your career can end with just one play gone wrong, so make sure you're always thinking of your future outside of football. That future starts right here, right now, in school. STUDY UP SON
