2) Playoffs MVP
As a fan of the New Orleans Second Line, you can call me a homer for sure, but I have to give Playoffs MVP to the collective team. Split it between all the players. You have folks like Francisco, Jones, Bode, Gump, Ulysses, Taylor, and the list goes on. I am not slighting anyone by not mentioning them, it’s just a really long list of greats that would fill up too much space. Any player on the Second Line could have taken home the MVP award, they were just all good. Even if the stats might not show up in the records book, each player brought something to the locker room that is simply undeniable. Everyone has intangibles that account for a lot. Players can lean their heads on their teammate’s shoulders. After Jones had a rough set of downs in the final game, it was Francisco that gave him some advice to calm down and just play the game he loves. Francisco rose up when it was time. His leadership played an important role in the Second Line winning. Because of that, if the team can’t split the award, then Francisco ought to get the nod. The city waited a long time, and Francisco delivered.
9) Dynasty
New Orleans Second Line won a bunch of games this season in a row to get started. The season seemed like lightning in a bottle, but the truth is that none of it was a fluke and the Saints are here to stay as the top team of the league. Winning the Ultimus solidifies the Second Line as the best team. Winning makes them the undisputed best team as of now. Going forward, I don’t think it will be any different. There are a lot of players on the team that if given the keys to the car, then they will drive all the way with it. Next season, the Second Line are looking to repeat, and the season after it three-peat. There’s a lot of skepticism about whether the Second Line are the real deal, but it’ll all play out in due time. Just like going into this season, there were doubters who did not feel that New Orleans would even be in the Ultimus final. Well, we proved them wrong, and we will do it again going forward. The word dynasty gets tossed around too loosely these days, but with the Second Line, it can be considered somewhat of an understatement. We are not only experiencing the Second Line Dynasty, but rather the Second Line Era.
12) Pay It Forward
Stan Francisco is a friend of everyone in the New Orleans locker room. It seems like Bona’beri Jones and Stan Francisco had been in New Orleans forever waiting for a championship. Finally, they got to raise the Ultimus trophy together and it was a great feeling. For a long time, Francisco was the brains of New Orleans. Helped build a dominant team that turned into a championship caliber team. Quarterbacks and receivers always have special chemistry, unless they are trying to lose. On the field, Jones and Francisco know what the other is thinking. Jones often seeks out advice and leadership from Francisco who is always willing to dish it out. The duo has had some great success over the seasons, making Jones look way better than he ever was. The two have spent a long time together, and after next season when Jones plays his final game, it’s going to be a little emotional. Since meeting Stan Francisco, Bona’beri Jones was always looking up to Stan as a leader. Jones gained a lot of inspiration and drive from Francisco. Stan has always drove Jones to be the best he can be, and it has evidently paid off in season 21.
