I've been enjoying DOTTS ever since it came out, buying quite a few packs despite my bank account suffering. And while I really liked the variety of cards that I got, I think it'll be better if DOTTS included cards that portrayed multiple players. When you see NFL playing cards, there are some inserts starring two or more players who have some sort of context between them in one card. I think making those sorts of cards with ISFL position groups/ connections will give more diversity to cards and give more insight to the league history to the newer users. For example, we can make cards for Yeti's 'sacksquatches' or 'Fanta Curtain' of the Otters, as well as cards for best QB- WR connection in this current season.
Also, while this is not exactly a new card idea, I think it'll be much more interesting to add some context -like username or stat/ facts- to the DOTTS cards. Users are bound to get a lot of old and kind of forgotten player cards in their packs. And this can lead to loss of interest from newer users, as they have absolutely no idea who that player is. adding a short passage containing username and some interesting facts will do a lot of good in generating more interest among users and ultimately achieving DOTTS' goal of making money circulation better. Dotts is great. It’s a fun new use for our fake money which the wealthy elite sit atop like Smaug hoarding gold. But there is one fundamental flaw with Dotts and it’s mentioned in this prompt. The greatest player in ISFL history has no card to be found. Imagine, if you will, a player who won a ring in their second season, had to deal with the contraction of his team, get expansion drafted, and then win back to back rings with his new team for 3 rings total. Imagine this player were to then go on to be a send down for another team that won the championship, all the while creating a legendary cult following for himself. Surely this cultural icon of the league would have a card? Surely the people would demand to see the glorious face of our one true god in trading card form. Where is Gimmy Jaroppolo’s card? Gimmy’s left- and right-hand men, Ronald St. James III and Mister Big Chest (MBC if you’re nasty) should also be blessed with a Dotts card of their own, but their absence from the trading card database is far less egregious than that of Gimmy himself being left off the list. With a Gimmy card in circulation, users would flock to buy pack after pack in hope of finding the greatest player in history, skyrocketing Dott’s success into the stratosphere.

The best option to help regulate the league economy would be to exponentially scale up game-related purchases, from training and equipment to TPE. If they cost noticeably more, and even more than that when you purchase the higher levels of those things, the inherent value of contracts would massively increase. This would not only incentivize players taking larger contracts, but would also provide a better representation of the free agent process. Theoretically, the fewer large contracts a team has on its roster, the worse they will be, which would lead them to become heavy spenders. This would add parity, normalize the value of contracts, and add an extra layer of realism to the sim.
It would also bring an extra layer of prestige for the players with the highest contracts, much like real-life. That, in turn, would provide more media pieces, add to league discussion, and increase the overall lore of the sim. If a bad team goes all-in on a free agent with a massive contract to make a playoff run, they would have much more attention on them, the player, and each game they play. That would also help feed the flames of the very things that keep this sim going - lore, discussion, and the day to day banter between users. The more money a player makes, the more interest they get, which would lead to more players striving for large contracts. 234 words
So the first thing that comes to mind when I think about Dotts when compared to my experience with official trading cards, is season based cards with stats on them. That obviously might be a lot of work for the whole league but I think having cards for each player and their season with the stats that they've accumulated up to that season would be really cool. I don't know a lot about other players I really don't pay attention and I think that might be one step too getting me to start buying them with the ability to see how players are performing or if the player that I just drew is good or not etc etc. something else would be a record-setter series. Every time someone sets a team or League record it would be cool to have a commemorative card for that player and event. I don't understand why the league has this need to pull money out of players pockets oh, I feel like it really just hurts players with less money more and the players with more money but who am I to judge and I really don't care that much. but I would probably make them cheaper or free or something oh, I feel like I'm in the middle class in terms of money but I just don't really want to spend the money on these cards. However I do seem to be in the minority for that so I guess I'm the one who's wrong. finally I really like the idea of Team cards, mostly cuz I really only want the players from my team and so I don't really want other players or players who have been retired for years so maybe like a 2019 Philadelphia series would be cool.

So, I am going to be real here, I just joined the league recently and have been thrust into writing these articles with zero prior knowledge of the league. That being said, I think trading cards are kinda cool, I collected them as a child. If you really want to make things interesting, I think you need to make the first collectible football cards that can battle. We need to bring it back to the days of recess where the biggest baddest kid on the playground had a holographic Charizard, but instead...it will be a holographic Gimmy Jarapalo (who the hell is that?) Yu-Gi-oh? Bless you. Pokemon? Never heard of him. Digimon? Let’s be real that was never as cool ever. Another possible idea is incorporating trap cards such as “Deflated Ball” and “Butt Fumble.” You have a chance to make Dotts the most formidable card game around. No longer will “settling it on the sim” be the only chance to prove your mettle. Soon the gridiron will move from YouTube to a folding card table in your mom’s basement. There is even an opportunity for a sim card league, people around here are into simulations, right? The league would be foolish to let this slip through their fingers. Party on dudes!

As a card collector I would say that releasing different insert sets could be a nice touch. For example, "High Flyers" would perhaps be a series of receivers jumping up high into the air to make their catches. Or "Brick Wall" would be a series of cards featuring the leagues best offensive linemen. "Snipers" for the most accurate Quarterbacks. I also think a series of cards featuring highlights from the previous season would be interesting. Big games, comeback victories, incredible single player performances. These things could be valuable for players and teams because you will be commemorating their achievements during the season. For whoever wins the league you could do a series of cards called "Road to the Ultimus" detailing pivotal games, moments, and players in their championship season.
In the real world Topps does a series called "Topps now" which are cards that can only be purchased online and only during a short window of time. Usually either 48 hours or one week. I think if the site sold limited edition Dotts cards that were only available for a small amount of time it would increase the collectability of them and people would strive to complete their collections by getting those cards as well, which ultimately makes money a more important aspect of contracts and the league by creating a commodity that is desirable to spend it on. As the base set of Dotts card utilise draft renders, there will need to be plenty of imaginative and cool card series to keep things interesting and the attraction to buy high as this is what people ultimately want to see more than just their base render in a card.
One series idea that I have not seen anyone suggest is doing cards for the USA verses The World game. It would be similar to if there is a pro bowl series, which is more likely to happen and be suggested already so I thought of something different. The cards would be themes with the USA players in a red, white and blue jersey with the American flag layered in the background with the world players in their uniform, whatever their colours are, and the person’s respective flag or flag colours layered in the background. It would be a series that could be done everyyear, since some players are in the team for multiple seasons being based on TPE so it isn’t going to be extreme work every year to get it done. Furthermore, it helps embrace the International in the ISFL by making cards based on the event game. In terms of systematic changes, trading will come soon and that will be a bid deal. Also hopefully the cap of buying 1 pack a day goes. Whether it becomes packs are distributed once a week and you just post with how may you want, maybe even discounts when you buy a certain amount, such as buy 10 packs (5 million), get 1 pack free. |
