Season 28 is a welcome fresh start for the Austin Copperheads. After a season to forget last year, the organization is looking to bounce back with renewed energy this year. Fueled by the addition of a couple of new faces to the team, the Copperheads are excited to turn the corner! So let us take a closer look at your newest members of the Austin Copperheads:
Hamish MacAndrew - SS - S22 (873 TPE) @IthicaHawk
One of the biggest newcomers to the Copperheads. Hamish MacAndrew is a S22 veteran that has a lot of experience in the ISFL. He has played all 6 of his seasons for the Chicago Butchers after being drafted from the Dallas Birdogs. Through 83 career games MacAndrew has amassed 433 tackles, 37 sacks, and 15 interceptions. MacAndrew was also named to the Pro-Bowl in S24. His wealth of experience and what he brings to a team is something that we all look forward to! Not to mention it is nice to get him back to Texas!
Hamish joins the Copperheads following a very successful season last year in Chicago. The veteran Safety will be filling some big holes for us this season following the retirement of Gregor Macgregor. Hamish put forth a solid stat line last year in Chicago as he added 64 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions and 8 PDs. He is a player that gets the job done! He is someone that we look forward to seeing making plays in a teal and copper jersey this year! Copperhead’s General Manager Ian Malcom was the driving force behind bringing in MacAndrew, “Hamish was really excited to play Safety for us. He shares a lot of our interests and came in ready to be an active part of our LR and beer channel”. MacAndrew is not only filling a position of need on the field, he is also bringing forth some very positive changes in the Locker Room. The newly established MacAnBrews Brewery has provided a great place for all players to hang out and enjoy all that Austin has to offer! So if you have not gotten to know MacAndrew yet, make sure you take some time and reach out! Welcome to Austin!
Candice D. Fitinyomouf - DT - S27 (387 TPE) @TheRealMazatt
A future star for the Teal and Copper is finally getting his big league call up! Rookie Candice D. Fitinyomouf got the phone call this offseason and will be settling into our defensive line alongside Owen Issac, Slinky Claxton, and Troen Egghands. “He's a really fun user and I'm looking forward to getting him more involved in the locker room,” was one of the first things Austin Copperhead’s General Manager Fred Tassow said when asked about the call up. The young rookie has some big shoes to fill with the transition of Tyler Montain to Linebacker this offseason. However, the talent is there and the whole organization is excited to see what the #13 overall pick in the S27 draft can do! The organization saw a lot of talent in Candice D. Fitinyomouf and wanted to do everything possible to bring him to Austin and now the wait is finally over.
Candice D. Fitinyomouf spent two seasons with the Norfolk Seawolves. In his rookie campaign he racked up 43 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 4 sacks. In this past season he managed another 43 tackles and 7 tackles for a loss. Standing in at 6’3” and 300lbs the young Defensive Tackle has the size to do some serious damage in the trenches this year. We are looking forward to watching him play alongside Owen Issac! Welcome to the big leagues!
Aleksandr Vasiliev - WR - S28 (120 TPE) @aimbotalex
With the last pick of our draft we went for a talented young Wide Receiver out of Portland. When asked about Aleksandr Vasiliev the Austin Scouting Team had this to say, “He is a player that has a lot of potential and we think that we can help him find that potential here in Austin.” Vasiliev was selected 58th overall in this year's ISFL draft and will be looking to spend some time in the DSFL in order to get his skill set where it needs to be before making the jump to the ISFL. While the young Wide Receiver has a lot of promise, we want to make sure that he has the opportunity to prepare himself in every way possible before he would get the call up. We managed to reach out to the General Manager of the Portland Python’s last year and he had this to say, “Vasiliev is quiet but he can put in some work and get things done. He has a lot of potential and just needs some help to get there.”
Vasiliev put forth a relatively quiet season in Portland last year. Playing behind players like Quavious McGrady and Saleem Spence made it difficult to get many touches. However, he still managed to put forth a solid stat line with 30 receptions for 371 yards. The flashes of brilliance are there for this young pass catcher and only time will tell what his career will lead to!
Bayley Cowabunga - WR - S28 (299 TPE) @JKortesi81
One of the steals of this year's ISFL draft. The Copperheads selected Bayley Cowabunga with the 16th overall pick in the draft. Standing at 6’3'' and 205 lbs the young receiver brings a lot of talent to the Copperheads. Although he is not getting the call up this season, he is going to be one that we are watching closely during the season. When we talked to the Copperheads Scouting Department they had this to say about Cowabunga, “Bayley Cowabunga is a top tier talent, not only based on what he can do on the field but what he brings us in the Locker
Room.” Coming off a spectacular 83 reception, 1073 yards and 7 TD, Ultimini winning season it is clear that Cowabunga knows how to win and bring success to any team that he is a part of. With the years starting to wear on players like Eddie Jeeta, we can look forward to a bright future with players like Cowabunga in line to take over!
Now that we have taken a look at the player let us look at the user behind Cowabunga! @JKortesi81 brings a lot to the organization as he has been around since Day 1! The man literally bleeds Teal and Copper and there was no way we would want him going anywhere else. He brings experience and a strong voice that will help keep this franchise heading in the right direction. We really look forward to all he is going to do both on and off the field this year and could not be happier to keep a Copperhead legend in the system! Welcome back home!
Siege Cameron - CB - S28 (206 TPE) @cjmccarley
As I am writing this, cornerback Siege Cameron has just made the DSFL Pro Bowl as a true rookie.
Things didn’t always look this bright for Siege, however…
Siege Cameron, cornerback for the Kansas City Coyotes, began his career in relative anonymity. Piloted by the user cjmccarley, or cjy for short, Cameron was a late create and actually spent his first week or so inactive. Siege had a hell of a lot of promise, however, so it was no surprise that after a bit of coaxing and coaching from his Kansas City general managers, he returned to the league with renewed vigor and inspiration. Cameron was a bit behind on TPE, but he made up for this with increasingly impressive stat lines and a presence in the KCC locker room that promoted player growth and overall good vibes. After an abysmal two and seven start of the regular season in Kansas City, it was Cameron’s tenacity to earn and his positive influence that helped keep the team afloat and rip off a seven game winning streak to catapult the Coyotes to an Ultimini appearance.
As of today, a day before the ISFL Season 28 draft, Siege Cameron has just found out that he has made the Pro Bowl after his first season. Watching a player go from functionally inactive, to making plays in the Ultimini, and ultimately making the Pro Bowl, is a joyful experience that I hope everyone can feel some day. To say I am proud would be disingenuous. I am elated, and beyond excited to witness what the rest of Siege Cameron’s career will bring moving forward. He will play at least one more season in Kansas City, until he is called up to the big leagues with the Austin Copperheads, where he was drafted as what I can only describe as the late round steal of the century. In the meantime, Cameron will continue to grow and prosper under the developmental guidance of the Kansas City Coyotes, and the newly founded player development team in Austin. He’s got a great head on his shoulders, and a myriad of benevolent people looking out for him. And you, dear reader, should look out for him too, as he blankets your favorite team’s receivers and picks off every pass thrown his way.
So, while the past may not have been bright, the future looks damn near blinding. Keep up the good work, Siege. And as always, Fear The Howl.
Daniel O’Leary - DT - S28 (233 TPE) @mango8154
When it comes to defensive players, Daniel O'Leary should be a guy that all eyes are on. Joining us in Austin as our 3rd round pick, but as our 2nd pick overall, you have to believe that it was an absolute steal at that point in the draft. O'Leary is one of those special players that doesn't just do well on the field, but outside of the field as well. He's an energizer and a team player, someone who can rally the team and inspire them to push forward. Everything he did in his first season in the DSFL not only proved this, but showed that there's still so much to come from him. We in Austin know that what he brings to our culture and the sort of impact he'll have on the field will be an absolute game-changer.
Reflecting deeper into how his season went, O'Leary delivered a statline of 35 tackles, 3 tackles for losses, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble returns, and successfully pulled off one of the very rare occurrences of a blocked kick. For someone on the defensive line just starting out, this is a pretty impressive run of a season, showing a bright flash of what O'Leary brings to the table on the field. He's a guy who has proven he can turn that ball over and give his team a chance to win games, even in clutch moments where most wouldn't expect a defender to have much of a shot to make an impact. With O'Leary starting out this next season with a whopping 250 TPE, you have to believe he's primed to really tear it up now that there's nothing holding him back. We at Austin have no doubt that he'll be finding himself in the running for DPoTY and continue to be a major piece of the Ducks' defense.
Off the field, O'Leary is easily one of the most team-loyal and friendlier players in the league. He brings a lot of excitement wherever he goes while also maintaining a cool head at all times. It's clear as day that he's enjoying every minute of the experience through both good times and tough times. This is the kind of thing people dream of from a player, as it's what helps build or continue to build a positive atmosphere for all and deliver that same excitement he has to so many other players. He's already proven himself to be a pleasant fit in the Austin LR, and we have no doubt that once he's called up to play with us, he's going to be a big piece of the team overall.
All in all, we're incredibly excited to have O'Leary with us, as well as excited to see what sort of amazing things he'll be able to accomplish with us and with the Ducks!
Chathack’rius Smith IV - FS - S28 (221 TPE) @Rockiesfan4ever
The man with possibly the best name in the DSFL and a future safety for the Austin Copperheads. Let’s go through his rookie season and see how impressive he was.
Smith IV was selected 31st overall by the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. Coming into the season Smith IV would be the starting free safety for the team. His first game was a good five tackle performance in a victory for BBB away to Minnesota. Unfortunately the next game was at home to a Portland team that put a beating on them, Smith IV ended up with only one tackle on the day but there’s no shame in that. There’s always going to be ups and downs in a rookie season no matter how good you are.
On to the third game away to Norfolk and our man Smith IV gets his first takeaway of the season as he picks off Clarke, he adds three tackles to that performance as Bondi Beach won the game 34-21. From the highs of your first interception to another one tackle game for Smith IV in a loss to Tijuana. In week five Bondi Beach took down the juggernaut in Dallas, Smith IV had three tackles in a game where neither defense was playing well. In week six Smith IV’s Bondi Beach unfortunately beat my Kansas City Coyotes in a 22-13 win in Kansas City. Smith IV played well with another three tackles, two pass deflections and another interception, this man likes his takeaways! On to week seven and a tough loss away to London as Bondi Beach got beat 28-9 but our man Smith IV has a career high of seven tackles on the road. Another tough loss in week 8 for Bondi Beach with a 34-14 loss at home to Minnesota. Smith IV had five tackles and a pass deflection to continue his strong rookie season.
Week 9 brings Smith IV’s strongest performance of the season by far along with another loss away to Portland. Five tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two pass deflections and an interception! An incredible performance from Smith IV and he didn’t even win player of the game! It would be hard to match the performance in week 10 and although Bondi Beach got the win, a 33-16 win at home to Norfolk, Smith IV had a decent game with four tackles and a pass deflection. Week 11 is a beatdown for the defence as they get beat 40-10 away to Tijuana, Smith IV had a quiet day with two tackles. Week 12 is more of the same for Bondi Beach in a tough loss away to Dallas, Smith IV had a better day with five tackles. Another week, another loss for Bondi Beach, although it’s a close one this week at home to my Coyotes. Smith IV has another quiet day with three tackles. On to the last week of the season and a fourth brutal loss in a row for Bondi Beach. This time at home to London. In what’s definitely been the tough stretch of the season for the whole team, Smith IV had another quiet day with two tackles.
Smith IV’s stat line for his rookie season was forty eight tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and eight pass deflections. In my opinion he had a great rookie season and the future is looking really bright for Smith IV. I look forward to playing alongside him at safety for the Copperheads!
