Following the abrupt retirement of newly minted safety Su'a Cravens, the Washington Redskins reached out to moneybacker AC Hackett to fill his role. Both due to size and skillset, AC would have been a very natural replacement for Cravens. They both stand at 6'1" although Hackett, while no less nimble, is about twenty pounds heavier than the former standout. Because of the miraculous healing powers of TPE and the fact that NSFL games don't conflict with NFL games, the Liberty brass gave Hackett the green light to head back down to Maryland. Three days before the Redskins faced off against the Oakland Raiders, Hackett flew to Landover to tryout with the Redskins.
Although he wasn't intimately familiar with the Redskins playbook, Hackett immediately slotted in as the signal-caller for the Skins practice-squad defense. The practice was a mixed bag for Hackett. On the one hand, he had a beautiful interception on QB Nate Sudfeld to go along with a textbook performance shadowing the Skins dangerous combination of scatbacks and tight ends. On the other hand, Hackett struggled shedding blocks against the run, especially on inside rushing plays. Considering that the latter has been the Skins' defense Achilles' heel the past couple of years, the team ultimately decided against signing him.
