Well, this offseason is a bit different for me as I was traded to the Chicago Butchers! So going from hot Arizona to the windy city itself was a huge transition. I would have to change my workout regimen completely. The local gyms are where I'll be spending most of my days trying to get bigger and faster for my first season as a Butcher. With the weather being completely different, I'm taking advantage of the summer to run outside because I know once the season starts and it gets cold here I won't have the opportunity to do so anymore. Chicago will be fun to play this year.

Chad Pennington really didn't have any idea of what to do during the offseason so he decided to get another job. He's now a waiter at a diner that generally serves overcooked eggs and burnt coffee but it's not so bad. He has a regular there that he's sweet on and Logan "Money" Jensen stops in pretty much twice a day. The money is actually really needed due to the outrageous cost of training and purchasing shoulder pads in the NSFL. I really think this is a huge oversight, I'm not sure if Chad will have any money to retire with! Such is the life of a pro football player.
This off-season had a completely different feel from the last one where Joliet Christ was fresh off a win in San Jose's first ever Ultimus Championship ever! There was partying and celebrating at parades, clubs, local hot spots and even Disney World. Now, this off-season is more about what could have been and no celebrations going on. Sure, winning the ASFC over the Otters always feels nice but that is not the ultimate prize in the NSFL, an Ultimus is. While Christ reflects on what needs to be done in order to win the big game again, the motivation is still there, the desire to be a multi Ultimus winning quarterback is an exciting thought and something still in reach. Sure, the team took some hits in expansion but it is still extremely strong and unique. Look for Christ and the Cats to work hard this off-season and come back for another Ultimus run.
Former players:
QB Joliet Christ Jr. (HON/BER) (1x Ultimus Champ)
WR Deondre Thomas-Fox (SJS) (2x Ultimus Champ)
QB Joliet L. Christ (SJS) (Hall of Fame) (1x Ultimus Champ)
This was a big offseason for Mervin Leonard as he prepares himself for his first season in the DSFL. Leonard spent the entire winter and spring in Sandpoint, Idaho living with retired NFL Hall of famer Deion Sanders preparing himself physically and mentally for the upcoming season in hopes of being drafted in the upcoming DSFL. In addition to training with Sanders, Leonard also updated his diet this past winter changing from a primarily Canadian Diet (poutine and Tim Hortons double doubles) to now focusing on a healthier diet consisting of plain chicken breast and brown rice. Leonard is hoping this change in his diet along with his rigorous training will result in a successful rookie season in the DSFL.
Kolby Deringer started to sit down and at least thing a prolonged time about life after football. It started in a subtle way a bit after the SaberCats' Ultimus loss. Went out for a run and could feel he was a little more winded than usual coming back. Could just need a bit more training and he'll be fresher again, though he's been at this for quite a few years now. Started really hitting him in light of how he had seen older players from his rookie year fall apart around this point. Some aged better than others, though guys who started falling off then are gone now.
He's that guy now to a few rookies. The existential crisis was quite humbling, considering it's a small signal of the end. All the more reason to get after it now. Being atop the mountain once shouldn't be enough yet. Players only get one chance to play. Fond reflection is for when you're long past the point of realization that you can't play anymore. This offseason has been one of intense preparation for Tennessee product Bubba Thumper. With just one season of D-I action under his belt, Thumper feels he still has much to prove. He's spent most of his time either in the weight room maintaining his strength, or working with fellow Tennessee alumni on tackling fundamentals, ensuring that he's among the top prospects in both aspects of the game at which he feels he excels. At times, the workload he's put on himself has caused him to struggle maintaining his weight, but Thumper hasn't shied away from a meal since his high school growth spurt, so this is just another obstacle he's finding ways to overcome. The DT prospect is ready to prove he has what it takes to play at this level, and he's busting his tail to make sure he does so.
Sam will be spending the off season back home on his parent’s farm. His dad needs the help and he cannot afford a hired hand at the moment. When Sam signs his first professional contract he has already committed to buying a brand new tractor for the farm. That will cut down on his father’s late nights repairing the machinery around the farm. After seeing the struggles on the farm continuing Sam is making another commitment to find two helpers as well. It is time his father is able to relax a bit. It will take some convincing but Sam has a plan and a couple of people in mind that will do a good job and his father already respects.

Marquees Acho has saved up all of his money and training from his second season in the DSFL to unleash it in a mega-offseason training program, maxing out his strength and speed in a triple digit TPE update. He needs to be at the top of his game to keep up with high expectations in Baltimore following there amazing championship season.
Acho also had to move right up I-95 from Norfolk to right outside Baltimore. This is also a bit closer to his hometown in New England, so he’s made a stop back home to visit his family and friends. He’ll be refreshed and ready once preseason rolls around
Cameron Olsen is taking time in the offseason to do some changes to his training and play style. He's going to come back into the season with a ton more speed to get down the field. He wasn't incredibly happy with his performance in his rookie year so he's decided to be a vertical threat for the rest of his career. He met up with his GM's and went over how he may be used in the upcoming season and he's happy with the responses. Other than that, he's been hanging out with his family and doing signings with fans in San Jose. There were talks about the team possibly moving to Oakland so he was getting prepared for that but it seems that the powers that be decided against it.
I’ve been focused on football so long that I haven’t given a ton of thought to the other aspects of my life lately. Football has always been the biggest passion of mine, but there’s so many opportunities out there that sometimes it’s nice to be able to take some time off. I’ve spent most of my time gettin’ back involved in the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. We brought in a new sponsor recently, my teammate and amigo Laszlo Forty-Two. He’s been tellin’ people all about our restaurants and food, so I thought I’d see how the company’s doin’. Seems that management does fine whether I’m involved or not, so I spent some time on a shrimpin’ boat this offseason. Gives me a chance to connect with a different level of the company, and I like it a whole lot better than sittin’ in a boring office all day.
