16) Scouting Report
Magnus Valdyr: Safety, Tijuana Luchadores
For whatever reason, Magnus is often overlooked and passed over. Now I know what you’re thinking, how could anyone possibly overlook a 6’ 3” 230 pound monster of a human being but somehow it happens all the time. For example, some people decided to rank the season 22 safeties before the DSFL draft. In this ranking, Magnus placed 22 out of 23 possible safeties… You read that right, twenty-second… Unbelievable.
And to top it all off, the update doesn’t do him any justice either, ranking him number 11 out of 13 active safeties in the league. To take an excellent all around safety, one who contributes in all aspects on the defensive side of the ball, and rank him that low is down right tragic. He makes tackles, gets sacks, forces fumbles, returns interceptions for touchdowns, there is literally nothing he can’t do!
Teams that pass on Magnus in the NSFL draft will be kicking themselves for years to come, watching in horror as he single handedly demolishes their receiving corps. His ability to take over a game was on display Week 7 at Myrtle Beach. Magnus returned not one, but two interceptions for a touchdown to lead the Tijuana Luchadores to a 28-16 victory over the Buccaneers. Simply a sign of things to come, determined to forge his way forward with a chip on his shoulder.

18) Awards Season
Performance of the Year: Magnus Valdyr, Week 7 at Myrtle Beach (3 Tackles, 2 PD, 2 INT, 2 TD)
When you think of putting the team on your back and willing them to victory, the first thing that comes to mind is Magnus’ performance on Week 7 against the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. Magnus Valdyr set two team records for the Tijuana Luchadores that day. Not only did he set the team record for defensive touchdowns with two, but he also set the team record for interception return yards with 113. His two touchdowns turned out to be the difference between the two teams as Tijuana took home the victory, 28-16.
While returning interceptions for touchdowns isn’t all too uncommon, doing it twice in one game is exceptionally rare. In the history of the Developmental Simulation Football League, it has only happened three times. While in the National Simulation Football League, this task has only been completed twice, making Magnus only the sixth person to complete such a feat in the history of both the DSFL and NSFL! If setting two team records and accomplishing a feat that only five other people have completed before him, all in one game, doesn’t qualify for this award then I don’t know what does!

8) Revenge
I’d have to say, all of us in Tijuana will probably be looking for revenge against the Norfolk Seawolves in the upcoming season. We needed a little help the last two weeks of the season in order to make the playoffs. Our best shot would have been if we won out and had Norfolk drop at least one game. If those two things happened, we would have clinched a spot. Once Norfolk upset Myrtle Beach in Week 14, things got a little more difficult for us. Unfortunately, things didn’t get any better for us with their next game…
The following week, Week 15, Norfolk decided to keep on the gas against Dallas, beating them 31-20. This ended our playoff dreams out in Tijuana, and brought the disappointing end of our season to a close. Norfolk went on to be absolutely dominated in every facet of the game, and was shut out 18-0 by Myrtle Beach in the first round of the playoffs. While Tijuana would have rather been the team to lay the smack down on Norfolk, it was entertaining to watch Myrtle Beach do the job. Next season, Norfolk should expect the same results when they play Tijuana. I see things going 2-0 in Tijuana’s favor.
