Season 25 ISFL Draft Prospect Positional Breakdown – Tight End and Quarterback DOUBLE FEATURE
Hey there sports fans! Draft week(s) festivities are finally upon us! On Friday, September 25th we have the Season 25 ISFL Rookie Draft, which is followed up a week later with the Season 25 DSFL Draft. Due to my overflowing excitement over my first ever ISFL Draft, I am going to try and do a write-up of every position group coming into the draft.
In this edition of the positional breakdown of the Season 25 ISFL Draft, we are looking at TWO positions: Quarterback and Tight End
Position Stats
Active Players*: 2 (QB) | 5 (TE)
*To qualify as an active player for this breakdown, the player had to have been updated in the last update of Season 24 – 9/12/2020 in the TPE Tracker
Average TPE: 181 (QB) | 197 (TE)
Highest TPE: 210 (Jackie Daytona) | 253 (Dave Batista)
That’s right folks, we have a special double feature for you today! In this, the penultimate entry into my series, we have two positions we’re going to take a look at: Quarterback and Tight End! Why am I writing about two positions in one article? Have I lost my mind? Possibly, but no, the reason is because we have two very small player pools here, and I didn’t really want to write an article to talk about two players. So, you get to listen (read?) me talk about both!
Playing Quarterback in the ISFL is a labor of love. Every team currently has a starter in line (well, except Berlin) and the TPE curve needed to be successful is much higher than any other position. If you decide to play QB, you know you’re going to be hanging out in the DSFL for a couple of seasons at least.
Tight End, on the other hand, can be impactful much earlier on. I’ve heard rumors around that teams have shown success using two tight end sets, and seeing as this is a copycat league, we might see added importance placed on the position before too long.
Before I get too far into these player breakdowns, I want to preface by saying these are all subjective and based on my knowledge of the players. I know that I do not know everyone in the league, their stories, or how active they really are. If I missed any information or got something wrong about a player, feel free to correct me and know it mistakes are not intentional.
The Players
Dave Batista | Tight End | Portland Pythons | 253 TPE | @Frick_Nasty
Once regarded as one of the biggest stars in all of World Wresting Entertainment, Batista decided to stretch his wings and take on more acting roles. He landed roles in films such as The Man with the Iron Fists, The Scorpion King 3, and the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Oh wait. That’s Dave Bautista. Who the hell is Dave Batista? Oh, that’s my job to tell you I guess. Oops.
Batista is a recreate for long time user and current Colorado Yeti GM Frick_Nasty. That’s all I can really say because I don’t think I’ve ever interacted with Fricky Frack on a personal level. I’ve only ever admired from afar and daydreamed about our lives together.
ANYWAYS let’s talk about another prospect should we?
Djibutee McJimmerson | Tight End | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | 233 TPE | @UberBJ
Sometimes everything just comes together and what you get is utter perfection. That’s the only way I can think to describe the combination of player name, player render, and username. The creation of user UberBJ, McJimmerson looks to be the top Tight End taken off the board during Friday’s draft. McJimmerson is building his player to be a speedy receiving threat, as he’s the fastest Tight End in the draft and should help out any team’s vertical passing attack when he makes the move up. Off the field, UberBj is a fairly active user on the forums, and I’ve seen him poking his head around in various locker rooms. He will make a great addition to any team.
Jackie Daytona | Quarterback | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | 210 TPE | @Mooty99
Let’s get this out of the way – I love Jackie Daytona. There. I said it. It really has nothing to do with him necessarily and everything to do with how I imagine him to be. Anyways, Daytona is the recreate of user Mooty99 who, like Frick above him, is an acting General Manager (he runs the Austin Copperheads – oh, their new logo is super good so shoutout @r0tzbua for making it). Anyways, Mooty decided to finally call it a day on his RB Mako Mendoca, so Daytona is the new project. I wish him the best of luck!
Cmon Skiuuup | Tight End | Dallas Birddogs | 202 TPE | @"AirCrou"
Okay so let’s count it that’s now three out of four players listed that are recreates. Selfishly, that kind of sucks for these articles. It’s way less fun to talk about someone who’s been around for a while since everyone knows them better than I do. ANYWAYS, Cmon Skiuuup is another Tight End with yet another fantastic name. His user, AirCrou, is someone that I’ve heard of but unfortunately haven’t had too much interaction with.
Cleg Manclaw | Tight End | Minnesota Grey Ducks | 161 TPE | @Cynoblaze
FINALLY another new user that I can write about. Cleg Manclaw, which is possibly the most fun name to say out of all Season 25 draftees, has the look of a player who was created and then took a dip in activity. But, Cynoblaze has really come back with a fury recently, and has written two GREAT pieces of media: the DSFL Bracket Battle and the Slaughtermus. If you haven’t read them yet, I’ll give you a preview: what team’s mascot would win if we held a no-holds-barred fight to the death Kumite-style tournament? They’re both absolute blasts to read and make me excited to see what else Cynoblaze can cook up in the future.
Matt Peterson | Quarterback | Minnesota Grey Ducks | 152 TPE | @Peterson
So through this series of articles I’ve researched over 75 players, and none of them confused me more than Matt Peterson. Peterson, if you can help me out here I would love it. It looks like Peterson was actually a Season 1 prospect who stuck around for a couple of seasons, retired, recreated, and then potentially disappeared for 20 seasons. Maybe his post history got deleted or he just lurked in the shadows for that long? I don’t really know. What I do know now, though, is that Peterson has been active on Twitter and has put out some media, including a podcast/video, “ISFL Around the League.” I hope he sticks around and keeps making media. We can always use more quality podcasts!
Joe Show | Tight Ends | London Royals | 136 TPE | @Jguy
The last Tight End/Quarterback prospect I will discuss is Joe Show out of London. I have to admit, I don’t know anything about Show or user Jguy. It appears he created and simply logs in to do his activity checks and point tasks. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, and if he keeps on doing that, then at the very least a team will have a capable player in a couple of seasons. If anyone in the London locker room can share more information about Mr. Show, I would appreciate it!
BONUS PROSPECTS
I got all the way to the end here and remembered that we actually had Kicker/Punter players in our draft class! For some reason I had assumed that all of our kickers were Season 24 or old players! So, because of my old age and inability to remember things, you get two bonus prospects!
Jake Fencik | Kicker | London Royals | 220 TPE | @xenosthelegend
If you follow Fencik on Twitter, you are very aware of one fact: kickers are people, too. Now, I’m not totally sure if Fencik is trying to prove his existence to someone, or if his daily affirmation of self is some sort of attempt to achieve inner peace. All I know is that it’s nice to see him putting in work on the behalf of his fellow special teams players. Xenosthelegend is the user behind Fencik, and while I’ve not interacted with him directly much, I do see he has some decent activity on the forums. He created a really fun scouting sheet for our DSFL draft that was a mock draft where the prospects were graded on Google search results. I hope Xenos keeps creating unique and interesting content like that going forward!
Leo Bloomfield | Kicker | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | 128 TPE | @BloomeyGB
And the award for most likely to become a James Bond villain based on name alone goes to… Leo Bloomfield! Seriously though, Bloomfield was a waiver add in Season 23 for Myrtle Beach (I think) who ended up going back there in Season 24. He hasn’t been very active on the forums, but has been keeping up on his activity checks and point tasks, so that’s good! He wrote a fun article after the draft detailing his return to Myrtle Beach which was really fun. Bloomey, if you’re out there, I hope you come back and keep producing content!
Final Thoughts
One article three positions. Okay that sounded way dirtier on paper than it did in my head. Oops. Anyways, for some reason, Tight End and Quarterback were just chock full of recreates this year, which made my assessments a lot hard to do. I’m just glad that I didn’t forget to write about kickers, too! That would have been embarrassing!
Once again, thank you for reading. If you have any corrections or comments, please leave them below!
