This year has been pretty different, for a number or reasons. I'm a new parent, in a "new" home which is being renovated. My good friend @Crunk got in touch about the league and wanted to see if I was interested. I'll be honest, I was sceptical. I'd played around with these kind of games in my youth but those days were well gone. But in the current situation I thought why not, give it a whirl, see what it's all about. And I'm so glad I did.
Memories wise, well there are a two types for me. Two drafts, and two Ultimini appearances.
So the initial DSFL draft, that was crazy. It was strange enough getting scouted, people asking questions I didnt really know answers for. How many hours will I spend on the league each week? No idea, how long will it take me. Is your mother attractive? Well that's subjective I guess. Want to join the locker room on Discord? What's Discord.
Draft night, that was a great night. Being UK based, drinks were flowing a fair number of hours in the build up. Crunk got taken early but time was ticking for me, had the scouts forgotten about me, had I done so badly that I would be Mr Irrelivent? Damn, all this beer, need the toilet, but dont want to miss my name being called. It was around 2am when my name got called. London? Hardly exotic, but what a great bunch of people giving a warm welcome. Should probably go to bed now.
For the ISFL draft I had much more idea what was going on. Thankfully my name got called a little earlier so I got to bed a little sooner too, bonus! It was interesting to see how players had all developed through the season, how that impacted draft stock.
Now onto the second set of memories. The Ultimini appearances for London. Never thought I would be drawn to watching some dots move around the screen in the early hours, and be so delighted come the final whistle. Crazy how the sim has done that to me. But it's not all rosy, it's not a great feeling to be royally spanked in the Ultimini. That was a sad night.
But overall, I've loved getting involved in the game. I've "met" some great characters both inside the London LR and through the scouting processes. Always interesting to hear other users stories of their players too. So thank you, you've all helped make this whole Covid thing less of a big deal.
In terms of the future, 25 seasons is a long time. I quite like the idea that there could be a team based in international waters, sailing around in a huge stadium tanker. Playing at our ground? Yeah, come find us. I'll be there. Probably.
