So I’ve written about the new sim before – specifically what I was excited about and the changes I was expecting; however, I will say that I clearly hadn’t spent enough time checking out the demo before the season, as I was surprised by a few of the things I experienced. I have to say I was disappointed that special teams plays and defensive turnovers are shown simply as a colored line representing the direction of the play at that point. I had somehow convinced myself that the new sim engine would be showing interception and fumble returns on the field, and had thought maybe we would see a kick trajectory and/or kick returners squiggling around trying to return a punt. So to be honest I was pretty disappointed by this. Despite these issues, they cannot take away the coolness factor added to the overall impression of the sim experience. The different field colors, the new logos at midfield and in the end zone, and the more in-depth analysis being presented from the play-by-play box has been a real joy to see play out. I’m still having some troubles trying to keep up with the speed of the dialog box and stats playing at the bottom of the screen, but overall this has been a great transition.
