In one of the most shocking events in league history, the S21 NOLA mascot was driving with LB Joey Slothface on a cross country tour, when, suddenly, the car brakes broke, causing Slothface and our mascot to drive off a cliff, killing both instantly. We have since been mascot free in honor of the lives lost, but perhaps it is time to pick a new mascot. I suggest a full barbershop quartet could be our new mascot. New Orleans is obviously known for their rich musical scene, most famously its jazz. However, very few people know that barbershop quartets appeared in New Orleans as early as the late 19th century. In fact, famous jazz musician Louis Armstrong, who was born in New Orleans, sang in a barbershop quartet as a young man. Barbershop music is a uniquely American idiom, and could be a popular showcase at the games. The quartet as a mascot could dress up in purple suits and serenade with song as they enter the stadium. They could also perform the national anthem before games, and maybe sing a song or two as half-time entertainment. As the team does not have an animal or creature in its team name, but a musical group, it makes too much sense for the mascot to be a musical ensemble.
