What if the Honolulu Hahalua had drafted Maui Waialiki first overall in the S27 ISFL draft? This was a decision that was apparently close to happening, mere hours up to the actual pick being put in. Honolulu and Waiailiki had many ties, with the user being in Dallas, and a lot of Dallas players end up going to Honolulu. Maui was also from Hawaii, so it only made sense that he ended up going back there. He was a stud prospect and the user had one MDM that season in the DSFL. Honolulu ended up actually selecting Eleven Kendrick-Watts, user 124715. Honolulu was in need of a defensive end, and they ended up swapping their star RB to DE in the offseason to cover for that. Did that affect their running game at all? Maybe a little, but the Honolulu was very, very stacked. If there was a team that could afford a 1200 TPE player switching, it would be them. They had Nicholas Ayers and Cobra Kai to cover anyways. But maybe, instead of switching Gucci to DE, they could have swapped him to receiver instead. They could have chosen either numbers or me and still had someone to fill up that remaining hole. So why numbers? We may never know, but imagine if numbers dropped in the draft, despite being consensus 1OA. That would have messed up a lot of mock drafts, and shaken up the first round. Baltimore would have had the choice to select numbers at 2 or maybe even grab a defensive lineman since they needed one so badly. One can only imagine, as we move forward in time, we'll see how well teams drafted in that S27 first round.
Oh man, I was definitely blessed to be drafted by the Outlaws at the right time. I was drafted by the Arizona Outlaws in the second round and I came up to play with the team a season later. At the time, I was WR3 then with Saba slowly regressing I went to WR2 then WR1 as part of my new contract. Playing with Jay Cue definitely helped my receiving stats as he was on a tear in his regressing season. And now, Charlemagne Cortez is having a great start to his QB career which helps my stats even more than I thought. If I was drafted 1 spot earlier, I would have went to the New Orleans Second Line. I don't think I would have stuck with the team as they already have a solid wide receiver in Ed Barker so I could've seen myself enter Free Agency and went to another team, possibly the Outlaws. Also they aren't having a great season as they are 1-6 which I wouldn't have liked. A spot later wouldn't have worked either as I would've went to the Colorado Yetis, where they have a potential HOFer in William Lim. I would have also possibly went into FA to find a better opportunity. In the end, I'm glad I'm on the Outlaws as we have a potential dynasty going as we have 3 of the top offensive S24 players on our team and some solid S25 defensemen as well.

During the last ISFL expansion with the New York Silverbacks and the Berlin Fire Salamanders, the Sarasota Sailfish had no room to protect me so that put me on the board for the expansion draft, with Blago Kokot (now Yellowknife's starting kicker) the kicker in Sarasota's wings to replace me if I left, I waited to see if I would end up going to Berlin or New York. However, as the expansion draft went on I was spared, Berlin took Karmichael Hunt and New York took Dougie Smalls keeping me on the Sailfish and keeping us on track to our eventual Ultimus victory just a few seasons later. Now 3 seasons on, New York still has Dougie Small and Berlin now has Danny King kicking for them. And while this is just one small segment of the expansion draft, it is very interesting thinking about how many current stars were not protected because they were still unknown or rookies, and how many early retirees were protected. The next expansion will probably be the same as the last with many picks becoming new stars for their new teams, and many new stars staying on their old team because they are not yet stars; whenever that might be, it will be another interesting development for our league.

There are a number of blatant examples of terrible trades throughout the history of the ISFL and DSFL, but there's one that hits a bit close to home. When I entered the league, there was an easy choice for the worst team in the DSFL, as they finished last the season before and generally weren't that great for the previous season. This was the Pythons, who I'm talking about due to a specific trade they made during the S22 DSFL draft.
That draft is something we probably will never see again, considering just how many people were in the draft. It was late, the Pythons GMs were tired, and so they decided to pull off a trade. This trade is in my opinion the least reasonable trade in the history of the entire league. The Pythons got pick 193, Dallas' pick in Round 25, and in exchange, the Dallas Birddogs got... Gimmy Jarropolo, along with every single Pythons pick between rounds 19 and 24. The Birddogs got to trade 6 picks for 1 pick, lower than all the other picks, along with a meme player. The most notable names that came out of the 6 picks the Birddogs got were Colt Mendoza, AKA Steg, and Big Edd. Yeah, the Birddogs were paid by the Pythons to take, eventually, a 3 time DTOTY and a future HO member off of their hands. Due to how the DSFL works, this didn't impact the Pythons for all too long, by the time I entered the league 3 seasons later almost nobody from Season 22 was in the DSFL. There are probably more interesting trades in terms of longer term consequences due to the nature of the DSFL, but that doesn't change that this helped make the Pythons a bit of a laughingstock in the DSFL before they got new management. Just by not making this trade the Pythons might have made the playoffs in either S23 or S24, and Dallas? ...well, they might not have made the playoffs at all until last season if not for this trade.
I don’t think that I have been a member of the ISFL for a time that is long enough to come across many situations like this.
But I do think about the different way that the career of my player James Wilkinson could have turned out if he had not been drafted by the team that he now calls home, the New York Silverbacks! The most important thing that the team that I was drafted by could offer me was that they had the chance for me to play as their starting Tight End as soon as I was drafted! This was a the thing that I wanted to do and I think it was the best thing that could have happened for the career of James. Other teams that were interested in picking my player in the draft but would not be able to do this for me would have caused the career of James to get off to a different start! I think that I might not be as big a fan of the league that I am now if I had spent another season playing Football in the DSFL so I am very happy that the situation happened in the way that it did! My biggest what if goes way back to S24 when I played for the Philly Liberty.
So to set the scene I was a kicker back then and hadn't had the fastest start to earning in the league. I did want to break a franchise kicking record so I was keen to play my career at Philly but expansion came along in the form of the New York Silverbacks and Berlin Fire Salamanders. When the protection lists were decided for Liberty I was told I would be unprotected which I agreed with at the time as a kinda bad earning kicker but through that season I learned how easy it was to max earn and play this game properly so after I had been unprotected I had learned how to max earn and became a GM of the Kansas City Coyotes. Because of how that happened and some great chats with both @woelkers and @Highhaschdi I was pretty sure I was going in expansion and have loved it pretty much every day since even though it meant giving up on my original career goals. But the big what if for me would have been if I knew that Philly was going to need GMs like a week earlier cause I would have loved to apply for that and try to GM with @Memento Mori. It would have been skipping the DSFL but I think I would have done a decent job and would have been able to help him a bit and maybe things work out for both of us and we would both still be there. Who knows what would have happened but Mori has always been one of my favourite people around this site so to just miss out on an opportunity to GM with them will always be my big what if.

At the conclusion of the S25 ISFL regular season, I asked for a trade. When I was drafted to Philadelphia in S22, the team was nearing the end of a rebuild and my two new GMs told me the plan was to make the playoffs in S23 and contend for an Ultimus around S24-S26. As you may know, things didn't quite turn out that way. In S22, we went 6-7 and missed the playoffs on tiebreakers and in S23 we made the playoffs with a 9-7 record before losing to the Colorado Yeti in the wildcard round. We seemed to be on track, but over the next few weeks things unravelled. Seven games into S24, we were 0-7, both GMs who'd drafted me had stepped down, and our highest TPE player had opted out and left in free agency. It became clear that we weren't in a position to contend any time soon, and after missing the playoffs twice more my request was accepted and I was told I was now a member of the Sarasota Sailfish. Of course, I'm not a Sailfish player, as Philadelphia backed out of the trade a few days later. But for a few days, I was hanging out in the Sarasota locker room and thought I was one. Maybe in another universe I win the Ultimus with Sarasota, or maybe it starts a butterfly-effect-chain-of-events where Sarasota loses and Orange County wins another without me? Maybe with the draft capital Sarasota was willing to trade for me, Philadelphia's rebuild is nearing its end (again) and Philadelphia is a looming force in the NSFC in the next few seasons? What if, paradoxically, my desire to play for a playoff team turned Philadelphia into one and Sarasota into a basement-dweller? (293 words)
