Having just completed the career of my first player, I think I can pretty definitely say that to me the definition of not only a successful season, but a successful career boils down to just having fun and enjoying the people you’re on a team with. From a stats perspective, Richard Gilbert’s career wasn’t really anything to write home about, but I still had a blast through the entire thing and it’s basically entirely due to how much fun I had in the Tijuana and Colorado locker rooms due to the great people I met there. Lots of people seem to base success on winning the Ultimus, or putting up huge seasons, or winning awards, or anything else like that, but that just isn’t my experience. That’s not to say any of that stuff is pointless. Speaking from both player and GM experience it felt awesome bringing home those two Ultiminis to Tijuana, and winning an award for my running back would have been fun but isn’t the end all be all. But you know what felt even more awesome? Jumping into voice chat on a Friday night, having some drinks, and playing some Minecraft or Jackbox party games with the locker room. At the end of the day, I would much rather lose with a group of people I have a close bond with than win with teammates I don’t get along with.
