Tier 1: Long Form Tasks (Must be 800+ words)
Choose ONE for 10 TPE.
2. Tell us about your draft class. Is there anything that makes it special in comparison to other classes? Where did your fellow draftees land, how are they doing? Did anyone turn out to be an unexpected steal of that draft based on what you know today? Do you think anyone in your draft class will become a hall of famer? If you’re new to the league, how do you think your class will do? Where do you think people will get drafted to?
The Season 21 draft class was tremendous on paper and has proven to be worthy of the hype that it received eleven seasons ago. There were several re-creates of users that had tremendous players in the past: Firestorm-Fjord, Blackstone, Quaid, Yoda, Noble Jr. and McDonnell. As of season 31, twenty-five different S21 players have made at least one pro bowl. Compared to other draft classes, the s21 draft had talent well above the average draft class.
Going into the draft I thought Blackstone would be the consensus #1 overall pick to the OC Otters. Blackstone shockingly fell to pick #7. Looking at the stats Blackstone will retire as one of the greatest defensive ends of all time. Vegeta, a safety and the class TPE leader at the time went first overall to the Otters and had a very good career, even if it was a little bit short. Otis Allen, a highly underrated DT, went 2nd overall. He doesn’t have a ton of individual accomplishments but he was part of two championship teams with the Sabercats. He is one of the few S21 players remaining in the ISFL. Flash Panda went 3rd overall to the Liberty. He was touted as a great locker room presence. He had a solid career but most of it was spent on the rebuilding Liberty. PickSix was a highly talented lock down corner that was a great earner early on, he had a few great seasons with the Sabercats before a relatively early retirement. Kross, the 5th pick to the Hawks became one of the biggest busts in ISFL history. I was teammates with him in the DSFL where he was a great earner. Covid was a big reason he fell off the pace compared to his classmates. Firestorm-Fjord was an elite prospect that position switch from TE to CB. He was a tremendous player for the Butchers. The 8th pick was a huge reach in Dorfus Jimbo, a great locker room presence but he was a below average earner. Douglas Quaid was the 9th pick by the Wraiths where he still plays to this day. He has had a good career winning three Ultimus trophies and has quietly made his way up the all time leaderboards in several key defensive categories. The final pick of the 1st round, Riles McTackle, didn’t have much of a career, he burned out pretty quick.
Some steals of the draft would be Ed Barker. He was the 18th pick and has put up hall of fame worthy stats at WR. At the time of the draft Dax Frost was one of the top 3 highest TPE earners. But being a RB his stock fell, the Wraiths got him with the 29th pick. He is best known for changing his name to Chan and becoming the lead RB for the Sailfish. Perhaps the biggest steal of the s21 draft was James Lewandowski. He was the 65th pick by the Baltimore Hawks. Lewandowski has been an elite TE for several years and still plays on the Sabercats to this day.
As for future Hall of Famers, let’s take a look from a pure statistical perspective. I might be missing one or two worthy players but from a brief overview these seem to be the ones that stick out the most.
Locks: Barring a shocking turn of events, these players should be admitted at the first opportunity.
Blackstone: 2nd all time in tackles for loss with 114. His 77 career sacks place him 25th, but accounting for the fact that he was a DE it’s much more impressive. He has been with the Yeti his entire career.
Barker: He has career totals of 734 catches for 11,730 yards, and 73 touchdowns. Those totals rank 8th, 4th, and 12th all time, respectively. He will go down as a New Orleans football legend.
Questionable: These players may be lacking in an overall résumé that might shy them away from some HOF voters, but they do have a chance to get into the ISFL HOF.
Smalls: The longevity and effectiveness of Smalls is evident in his career totals. He his third all time in both extra points made + attempted and is also 3rd all time in field goals made and field goals attempted. Being a kicker it would always be tough to protect him in the expansion draft. The Silverbacks didn’t mind and have had a reliable kicker ever since.
Quaid: Quaid is currently 5th all time in total tackles, 16th in sacks, tied 6th in forced fumbles, and 1st all time in fumbles recovered. His entire career has been with the Wraiths.
Frost: This player changed his name about five or six times but has the 8th most rushing yardage of all time and 6th most rushing touchdowns. Despite being a Wraiths draftee, his entire ISFL career has been played on the Sailfish.
Lewandowski: This consistently effective TE has the 19th most receptions of all time. Accounting for position he looks to have the 5th most career receptions out of all the TEs.
