Let me set the scene.
Championship game. Down 3 points, coach doesn't want to play or OT, so the offense goes out to score the game winning touchdown. I line up and look across from me, no one's there. They've left arguably the best player on the field wide open with the game on the line. A feeling of exhilaration falls upon me. I'm about to win the game for my team in, up until this point, is the biggest game of my career. Then a screeching noise breaks me out of my trance. The referee has deemed that one of the bonehead linemen decided to take my moment away from me and jump early. I'm furious, but there's still another chance to win the game. I line up, this time I'm covered, no big deal, I've been cooking DBs all season, lucky for me the ball is actually snapped, I juke a poor corner out of his shoes and catch a wide open touchdown.
Then I see it.
A yellow piece of fabric is own the ground.
I want to believe that it isn't....
It can't be....
But it is.
Holding.
My doofus Oline did it again. Now with the line messing up twice in a row, my coach doesn't trust the offense anymore and sends the filed goal unit out. I'm furious, but our kicker is pretty reliable, even though it's a decently difficult 44 yarder.
The long snapper snaps the ball
The backup QB bobbles the snap, but he's able to get it placed
But with all the time the kicker has lost all momentum and kicks the ball way short of the goal posts.
Game Over.
All in all I'd say refs are temporary, but OL messing things up are forever
