Task 1 -
I know this is going to be a hot take, but the ISFL kind of sucks.
Hear me out. The league is chock full of cool people and its a great community and all that jazz, but the ISFL is really getting far behind its peers when it comes to making the user experience better. It feels stagnant, and as someone who’s been in three sim leagues for over a half a decade, i think we could take an idea from each of PBE and SHL to make this place a much better place for everyone.
The first thing I’d do is steal the entire banking system from the SHL. The SHL bank is the best one in the league, and it makes just about everything bank related entirely easier. Gone are the days where you have to post in a “player transaction” thread, and you can just post your weekly training with the click of a button. Or you can buy equipment really easy too. We can clean up all of the team bank threads real easily too. Plus searching for your past trainings and stuff is much less tedious when it’s all right there in your individual bank sheet. Now, it isn’t automatic, and the bankers have to approve various things, but it is much more convenient than the overloaded google sheet we use now. Our bank is old and outdated, and while there have been improvements along the way, its time to really consider changing things up completely.
As for what i’d take from PBE, the answer here is a lot simpler. The one thing the PBE does better than any sim league out there is how it sets up its claim thread. You see, in the PBE now, instead of having 47 different posts to claim everything you’ve done in a week, they post one claim post a week that includes EVERYTHING. This makes it so much easier on the user to only have to claim one thing instead of several. In the middle of the ISFL season that can be Our PT, 3-4 different predictions, and whatever else we have going on. And if making things easier on the user wasn’t a good enough reason, this also makes the updaters job per user MUCH faster. They only have to check ONE link there instead of several. This will expedite the updating process (which can be the absolute WORST) and making everyone’s jobs easier. It isn’t important to post every little prediction and stuff as soon as possible because we all only get updated once a week anyway. If it were instantaneous I’d understand keeping things as is. A little side change I’d still from the SHL again (the PBE needs to do this too) is that when they post a claim in their thread, they use the code box to make it easier to scroll through the list of names to see how much TPE you gained from the task, without having to go back up to click the claim link.
I know that making a bank system can be a daunting task (even though SHL has already said they’d give us their code or whatever) so I wouldn’t expect a change of that magnitude quickly. However, i think that the other idea, of combining all of a week’s claims into one single post using a code box to make it easier to search for you name can be very, very doable. This is much better than having to go through every single prediction and PT. We should always be looking to make things easier on the user, and this should be a really nice step towards doing that.
