Tier 1: Long Form Tasks (Must be 600+ words)
Choose ONE for 10 TPE.
6. Write 600 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 600 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.
I've been very clear that my current player, Sconnie McSix, is one who is gunning for Hall of Fame. Due to a variety of factors, I retired early with Sconnie McHits, who was a decent player in his own right, but this player is going to chase greatness no matter the cost. With that in mind, although McSix is just one season into his ISFL career, I wanted to see what kind of pace he is on and what pace he might need to maintain in order to get to where he wants to go.
Starting with TPE, McSix is doing all of the right things. He is currently the top earner in his class as he enters his sophomore season at 567 TPE and is the class leader in that category. As a max earner, McSix will be shooting for that coveted 1500 TPE mark.
Now let's break down the numbers statistically. With a max career and fighting regression, McSix could hypthetically play for another 14 seasons. Let's first extrapolate out his rookie numbers to that career timespan.
S36: 63 receptions, 649 yards, 9 touchdowns
Career Projection: 945 receptions, 9,735 yards, 135 touchdowns
What stands out is obviously the low yardage totals, as McSix's rookie season was less than stellar from that respect. That yardage would place McSix at 35th all-time in league history. However, things get more interesting when we look at receptions. The reception total would put him at a respectable 9th all-time, and very close to cracking the top 5. Finally, the touchdown total is in the best position of all, as the 135 touchdown total would shatter the current record of 118!
Now, things are pretty chill in Baltimore, so there's a chance I could stay there for my entire career. Let's see where these totals would put McSix on the franchise career record books.
945 receptions would put McSix in first place, ahead of the 871 catches by Verso L'Alto. 9,735 receiving yards would put him 4th in team history in that category, so definitely work to do there. Lastly, the 135 touchdown total, which we have already established would be a league record, would obviously also be a team record, ironically besting the former league history leader Trey Willie, who scored 96 touchdowns as a member of the Hawks.
Now let's say McSix only wants to play long enough to crack the league history top 10 in each category. How long would he need to play? More math time!
The player who currently sits at #10 in career receptions is Taro Raimon, who had 833 career receptions. McSix would need to play for 14 seasons to get there, which is essentially a whole career, although the exact computation is 13.22 seasons, so with a few higher reception seasons and with productive catch numbers during his regression years, he could maybe get there in 13 or fewer seasons.
The number 10 spot in receiving yards belongs to Alexandre LeClair, who finished his career with 11,718 yards. We previously established that McSix is not at all on pace to hit the top 10, so how many seasons would it take him to hit that mark? Over 18! What kind of yardage totals would McSix need to hit the top 10 in a plausible career? With 791 yards per season, he would get there in a full 15 season career, which likely means he would need plenty of 1,000+ yard seasons to offset low early and late career season totals.
Finally, let's talk top 10 TDs. #10 is Josh Garden with 84 tuddies. At his current pace (don't get me wrong, that is certainly no guarantee...touchdowns are so hard to predict), McSix would have to play for 10 seasons to hit the top 10 in receiving touchdowns, which is a very impressive number and showcases why this was so clearly the most noticable of the statistics McSix put up in his rookie season.
Grader, thanks for reading all of these statistics and sorry if it got a bit dry...I was geniunely curious what kind of pace I'd need to be in the Hall of Fame discussion, so this was a worthwhile exercise for me
