Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 300+ words)
10. Through a random lottery drawing, you have been named the league's new commissioner for a day. Congrats! What improvements would you make to the league if you had the power to do whatever you wanted?
As commissioner for the day what would I do this time around? Well, this time around I guess I go with the following:
- Using resign instead of re-sign voids contract
- Ability to purchase attribute cap increase
Something that I've seen is the use of resign instead of re-sign. While I know what they mean, I'm going to be petty can create a rule which voids the contract offer if resign is used instead of re-sign. Additionally, when the contract is voided, the player will be unable to sign with the team that offered the contract. The period of time that needs to elapse would be number of seasons specified in the contract post. So, if you had used resign in the post name and the contract was for 5 seasons, the player would not be allowed to sign for that team for 5 seasons. To avoid circumvention of the rule, any player on the receiving end of a voided contract will have a NTC equivalent preventing them from being traded to the team which offered the voided contract. Is this ultimately pointless and petty? Yeah. Is it easy to just add a hyphen? Also yes.
There isn't really a lot you can do with money aside from training and equipment. Sure, you can blow it all at the casino but really once you've made bank there really isn't much to do. I would allow the purchases to increase the attribute cap for attributes other than speed. Why? Well I think it would add some differentiation between the builds and would reward those who are active in holding league jobs, creating media and doing graphics. It won't be cheap and it might give the sim balance team a headache but I like the idea of more varied builds considering if you earn well there's a period of time prior to regression where you just bank everything.
14. Expansion Expansion Expansion! Tell us why you think the league should expand / not expand or include any ideas (in words) for team branding ideas you have or team locations.
While new teams would be interesting, I don't think it's really the right time for it. After all, we're really two seasons away from the DSFL contraction which was narrowly avoided. So I'd be very hesitant on any expansion talks seeing how contraction has been on the table fairly recently. As such, my stance on the matter would be to stay as is and monitor the recruiting class and retirements during the offseason while keeping an eye on activity check, weekly training and point task numbers to see how we're tracking. Stability is pretty important aspect to the league health and it would be unwise to have an expansion be followed by a contraction not so long after. When considering the tough decision when selecting teams to contract and the heat that it would not doubt bring, it in my opinion would appear to be a better idea to keep things as is and wait and see how things unfold. Considering that older classes may have people who may opt not to recreate or recreate down the line and that not everyone in newer classes will remain active for the entirety of their player's career, I'd lean on being very cautious when it comes to expansion.
In a hypothetical expansion I'd like to see another team in Europe. Why Europe? Well in the DSFL you have the London Royals who are kinda on their own, so a closer neighbour might be nice to get a regional rival. Same thing would apply to Berlin as well. A second team in the region to get a regional rivalry going and take advantage perhaps of a market that's under-utilised. Biased take, but I'd like to see another team in the Asia Pacific region. New Zealand maybe or Australia to stoke further interest and create a rivalry of sorts for Bondi Beach in the DSFL. Could also make sense for the ISFL as well if you view Bondi Beach as a development pathway, I think it would make sense to have an ISFL team based nearby.
