(S43) PT #1 - New Season, New Suggestions?

I’m just spit balling here and don’t even know if its possible but what about adding a dynamic weather system that directly affects gameplay and strategy.
*Gameplay Impact*: The rain-soaked pitch could lead to a slower ball movement and reduced traction, making it harder for players to maintain control and execute quick passes. Strong winds could affect the trajectory of long passes and shots, requiring players to adjust their tactics accordingly.
*Player Performance*: Players with excellent ball control and agility might have an advantage in slippery conditions, while those with heavy reliance on speed could struggle. Goalkeepers might find it challenging to handle wet balls, increasing the likelihood of fumbles or deflected shots.
*Strategy Adjustments*: Coaches would need to adapt their tactics based on the weather forecast. They might opt for shorter passing, focus on set pieces, or adjust their lineup to include players who excel in adverse weather conditions.
*Fan Experience*: The simulation could also incorporate visual and audio effects to immerse users in the weather conditions, enhancing the overall fan experience. Players and coaches might also express their thoughts on the weather during pre-match interviews, adding another layer of realism.

Looking towards the next season, I think the system implemented so far is rather robust and well streamlined to what we are doing, so I do not really have any serious suggestions as to what could be done to improve the league itself, but I can give a silly/fun suggestion, which would be more fun community/gaming events to cut through a bit of the football on the discord server! When I joined in on the jackbox game night hosted recently, I had a really fun time and felt like I got to know more of the people within the international football simulation community and was able to further feel more at home here on this site and on the discord. I feel like it is also a great way for relatively new people to get to know some of the people within the community and get plugged in with some that have similar hobbies to them outside of this league.

I'm not quite sure if anyone will see this but I'm going to lay it out on the line right now, I think we should make the move to Twitch for our streams, I know a lot of people have things to say about each of the two but honestly, I think twitch would benefit us more than youtube. My argument going forward would be we don't really have a lot to lose if you think about it, say ten people on average actually watch the stream on youtube the same ten people will most likely watch on Twitch and Twitch gives the league a little bit of free advertisement because if we can get people to actually watch the stream then random bypasses can see "ISFL" pop up on the homepage and possibly discover the league and it's a win-win for all of us, youtube, unfortunately, won't really do that for us, you would have to have an insane weird algorithm for something like ISFL to pop up on your main page when you open up youtube.

I would love to bring prestige to the draft round taken at for the ISFL draft.

It's a given thing when people say "where you're taken at doesn't matter" and that's 100% true, you really don't have anything separating a first rounder from a third when you're 5 seasons down the line, but I would love to add some texture to the draft and desire to be taken in a higher round. Not only does it make it more interesting and increase investment in seeing where you're drafted, it also mirrors how it works in the real draft.

The way I see it, there are three main dials the HO can turn as rewards for players, we have TPE, money, and forum awards.

I strongly hesitate to add any kind of TPE to draft position, especially since there's the wrinkle of GM picks being forced in the second. I think adding TPE adds too much complexity and feel bads to the system.

Money is a easier one, it's infinite and earnable, and you can more readily give people a one time bonus and not worry about the impact.

Forum awards are the last dial, one I'm quite interested in as I've got none of my own. However I think that it'd be a slight concern to clog up a user's page, although it would be fantastic to be able to see who someone was drafted with in their season.

I would first explore adding a draft round bonus, something like 1M for a first rounder, 500k for a second rounder, and 250k for a third rounder. Especially with how earning relates to draft position (as a first order approximation for involvement), you would mostly be helping second and third rounders slightly.

I'd love to see a first rounders award for the forums but I think that the time cost of applying the retroactively might make it prohibitive.

I think game commentary and team analysis videos would make the league more exciting. Adding commentary would increase user engagement and would definitely make the games more fun to watch. As well, making the games animated and/or 3d would make them way more engaging although it would take a lot of work. Currently the game streams can be kind of boring, although the games are too fast for play by play commentary the games could still have some sort of commentary. On top of that videos showing an overview of every team and where they’re expected to finish would help build realism in the league and help new league members understand what’s going on in the league. Finally, making the off-season longer would help new users understand how to gain TPE and prevent players from going IA directly after the draft. It would also give GMs more time for scouting and give user more time to get active.

I've only been in this league 2 seasons, and haven't even been called up to the ISFL yet. But, I think a change that could help the league would be a rookie training class. Get groups of 5 - 10 rookies, put them in a server with someone with experience (could be a payed job, like 5 million maybe) and have them teach the rookies the basics of the league. When I joined, it was very confusing and I almost quit during my first year because I felt like I wasn't making progress. I think having  more exclusive and expanded rookie mentors would help the league. The mentor would teach you the basics, but also directly walk you through the rookie PT and help you with stuff like PT's and build help throughout your first DSFL year. I think this would be an improvement over the previous system by having one dedicated person to contact and also better bond you with the league.

 Honestly Unlimited cap would just give us the old baseball problem where one team could just buy up all the good players and make an easy super team. I do think that play by play commentary could be something cool to add, but I don't know if it would work for every game given how difficult it is to keep commentary teams consistently around. I do think one cool thing we can do is have some kind of weekly graphic series highlighting the best players each week. This could also create some more job opportunities in the league, which is always good.

 I do think that a Chriper/Chatterbox like option similar to what PBE and SHL have could also be cool, though I know that server pay serves the same purpose anyways. Maybe we could also get an official media series recapping each week in the league? And also I think more videos highlighting things around the league similar to what the PBE is doing could also be cool for this league.

Now, I know there are major restrictions on how the league operates on account of the sim and that is completely understandable. This is just something I would love to see, understanding that it is not feasible currently.

So, what I’d love to see is more individuality encouraged with player builds and being able uo put together a team that really complements its pieces. What I mean is, there being no ‘meta’, it requires you putting together a system and bringing in players to complement it, or vice versa, working your system around the players available. Make under-used positions relevant. Fullbacks, blocking TEs, Scrambler QBs. Everyone should be able to put their player together the way they want and have a spot on a team where they can be used to their advantage. Rather than get into the DSFL, pump Speed as much as possible, then swap your arch to the dominant one for the current build, no matter the needs of the team. 

As I said, I realise this is all very controlled by the limitations of the sim. Or just ban sim testing….
