The Golden Hawk is all I want. It brings peace and serenity to whoever gets it. But our GM's are determined to have it for themselves. It's pathetic and they tend to ruin a lot of things. We have music blasting before and after games to stay loose. We like to play poker but of course we don't gamble, we would never do that on the airplane in the middle of the night while none of can sleep. We have the rookies sing their favorite songs to us and of course they have to carry the equipment to the bus. Overall, I feel the traditions live strong here in Baltimore and helps us stay close as a team and group overall. We even let the mascot help at times and we gamble with him as well. He's oddly rich and does this stuff for fun, Our mascot is our GM swoosh. He is the golden Hawk...

Honestly the NOLA LR has been awesome for the past few seasons. If there's one thing being bad has done for the past few seasons, it's allowed NOLA to be able to grab just awesome users and people to hang out in the LR. Almost everyone is involved in the day to day chatter that occurs in the LR, and I'm thankful that we have such a great group there. I'm not sure what I bring to the table that may be unique from others, but I'm perpetually online, so I guess I'm always around to chat our talk with whoever is online at the time.
Man, it's hard to narrow down the list of great people that we have that help contribute to the LR experience that we have now. But definitely want to give some shoutouts to Slothface TomHanks, Baz, Toof, JoeSteel, and some newer additions like AFord and Drip have all had a huge impact on the LR experience for NOLA this season and I'm excited that we get to keep this train rolling for the next few seasons.
The Norfolk locker room as a close knit group and we have a great mix of new voices and veterans, and especially in the war room. It's a good blend of that new and old user group. We do a lot of things together as a team. During gamedays we will have a gameday vc and get everyone involved. It's a really cool experience and we get to get the new people involved as well. We also have done hunger games and survivor sims throughout the season with the new people and veteran users. The newer users who are contributing the most are yonggarius and ACynicalGamer. Both of these guys will be amazing at the ISFL level too and I'm so glad we were able to grab them. They're both very active and help with hyping the team up during gameday. They're also great in the war room and provide helpful insight and will be super helpful during scouting season.
I know the locker room is super improtant to a team's long term success. If your locker room can not come together after a tough loss or a big win then what are we even doing? Luckily for every one involved, I got lot's of old guy experience in locker rooms. I know all the locker room games we can play to get moral up. I love me some hot ones wing challenges. The one chip challenge is another fun one. Also icy hot or toothpaste is a fun game we like to get the new guys with. Sometimes we just play guess who. But at the end of the day who else would you want to have a long deserved shower beer with other than your team mates. As an old man, shower beers are some of the best beers, not sure why that is... There has to be some sort of science behind why old people in locker room's just love talking to the young ins. And for some reason we always forget our towels. But good thing that is not a problem in our locker room. We also have darts, pool tables, beer pong, corn hole and various other back yard fun games. We even do some karoke from time to time. We all suck at it, but I think that is half the fun
The San Jose is a mystery to many. Our public-facing channel definitely doesn't get as much use as I would like, and that's mostly out of habit. Our team locker room is where we share everything. Gameday chat has been quite robust this season with our new-found success, but everyday we get things started with a greeting from the Scots around 3am EST. I typically get up and respond to whatever wildness has been posted around 7:30am EST and then @McGriddy10 will hit us with his patented "Hi cats" when he wakes up (which can be anywhere from 8am to 8pm!!). We keep things light-hearted and drama-free and work hard to stay positive and build each other up. We share in victories on and off the field. Por ejemplo, our very own @ajtigger successfully defended his dissertation and is now Dr. Booter McGavin!! We're all super proud of the smartest Sabercat!
Locker room morale is critical to a team's success. and you need a plan to keep the team cohesive and positive so that they can play well when it really matters. The Orange County Otters are big on team meals, trying to get the core groups together to enjoy good food and relax with everyone. The meals help with relieving tension and ensure everyone is relaxed for the tough work to come.
As a veteran of the locker room, I have seen first hand the impact of morale and momentum. I have cultivated a pattern that has worked well to be a quiet leader in the locker room. That includes paying attention to individual moods and feelings, and approaching players one on one to discuss their general state of mind and feelings, and work with them to make sure they had their priorities in line and generally doing alright. This helps the players adjust to the pace of the game and perform as well as they can. |
