S24 is still being played but the expansion machine is in full swing. New York and Berlin will be trying their best to scout one of the biggest rookie classes we've had as well as the 180 or so veterans available to them in the expansion draft.
In this article, I'll make very uninformed guesses as to who might get picked at each spot. I haven't been around for very long and there will almost certainly be errors, so be warned! Also, apologies to @"Punter715" for posting this at essentially the same time as his!
My key assumptions:
Firstly, a quick look at the two players that each team will have on the roster:
New York:
DT - Bubba Thumper (S17, 1257 TPE)
CB - Dukburg Quakstak (S25, 236 TPE)
Berlin:
WR - Asher Quinn (S18, 954 TPE)
WR - Nick Kaepercolin (S22, 736 TPE)
Without further ado:
ROUND 1: New York selects RB Joseph Petrongolo (S23, 558 TPE) from
There are some great top earners that have been left unprotected, especially at WR, but given that Berlin are starting out with two WRs, NY might consider waiting until later in the draft to pick there. Petrongolo has been a max earner and looks to be a star RB of the future.
(ARI protect Sandro Ryeu)
ROUND 1: Berlin selects LB Hingle McCringleberry (S23, 466 TPE) from
Teams will be looking to snap up the unprotected players from more recent classes, and McCringleberry ticks all the boxes as Berlin need to look to build their defensive unit as a priority.
(CHI protect Sean O'Leary)
ROUND 2: Berlin selects DE Mario VonPebbles (S22, 661 TPE) from
Berlin complete a double raid of Chicago's overflowing young talent by snapping up one of the top DEs available.
(CHI done)
ROUND 2: New York selects WR Jackson Kingston (S23, 566 TPE) from
With the opportunity to pick O'Leary gone, the Silverbacks make sure they get the top young WR left on the board, and one of the highest S23 earners around.
(COL done)
ROUND 3: New York selects DE Mike Karpaasi (S23, 436 TPE) from
Karpaasi is a strong earner at a fairly thin position in terms of unprotected players. NY shores up their line with this early pick.
(SAR protect Rayne Gordon)
ROUND 3: Berlin selects CB Lord Beerus (S19, 1011 TPE) from
There aren't a lot of CBs available here, and though there's a wealth of them coming through the ISFL draft this year, a veteran presence in the secondary makes a lot of sense.
(OCO protect Jeffrey Phillips)
ROUND 4: Berlin selects TE Leon McDavid (S21, 907 TPE) from
Berlin makes it 3-3 on offense vs defense by adding the all-rounder TE McDavid.
(SJS protect Rando Cardrissian)
ROUND 4: New York selects LB Jack Banks (S22, 574 TPE) from
Banks is one of the top young LBs still on the board, so it makes sense that New York would pick him up here.
(HON protect Venus Powers)
ROUND 5: New York selects QB Easton Cole (S16, 1069 TPE) from
While teams will be focused on youth, the prospect of starting a top QB for at least a couple of seasons is too good to pass up, and I think someone will look to pick Cole midway through the draft.
(AUS protect Kichwa Jones)
ROUND 5: Berlin selects S Magnus Valdyr (S22, 553 TPE) from
Safety is another rare position in this list, so Berlin will look to wrap up the top name on the board here.
(YKW protect L’Carpetron Dookmarriot)
ROUND 6: Berlin selects DT Claude Miller II (S22, 615 TPE) from
Another great earner to join VonPebbles on a youthful D-line.
(ARI done)
ROUND 6: New York selects CB Tomage McGullger (S23, 380 TPE) from
NY adds a second young cornerback to complement Quakstak when he comes through the ranks.
(AUS done)
ROUND 7: New York selects TE Clark Boyd (S22, 557 TPE) from
Good value here quite late on in the draft. New York completes one of each offensive skill position with this young and active earner.
(SAR done)
ROUND 7: Berlin selects WR Ed Barker (S21, 772 TPE) from
This would be Berlin's third wide receiver, but Barker is one of the top options left on the board. With the ISFL draft still to come, teams can afford to become a bit more imbalanced now.
(NOLA protect Hank Steel)
ROUND 8: Berlin selects K/P Karmichael Hunt (S23, 428 TPE) from
The top earners are starting to dry up, but Hunt is a great value pickup, giving them a potential long term K/P if they continue earning at the current pace.
(PHI protect Dre Matthews)
ROUND 8: New York selects WR William Alexander (S22, 594 TPE) from
With some top WR options still on the board, New York will look to fill up their corps with more youth.
(HON done)
ROUND 9: New York selects DT Rapid Eagle (S21, 699 TPE) from
Eagle is a great option and a very good earner. The only reason they've fallen this far is the presence of GM Thumper at the position as well, but they can no longer be ignored as other positions dry up.
(OCO done)
ROUND 9: Berlin selects RB Fuzzy Dotson (S18, 814 TPE) from
At this point in the draft, best available player will surely become the strategy of choice. Dotson becomes Berlin's primary running back which will help massively in the first couple of seasons while their DSFL guys get up to speed.
(PHI done)
ROUND 10: Berlin selects DT Yuuto Kira Cloudera (S23, 408 TPE) from
Despite already having a DT/DE, Cloudera is a great prospect for the future and is an easy choice here.
(SJS done)
ROUND 10: New York selects K/P Dougie Smalls (S21, 695 TPE) from
Smalls makes sense here as an experienced, mid-career K/P for New York
(YKW done)
ROUND 11: New York selects WR Sean Snyder (S22, 536 TPE) from
Snyder is the best WR options left on the board and is a strong active user to add to the locker room.
(NOLA done)
ROUND 11: Berlin selects OL Byron Dolls (S22, 525 TPE) from
Berlin can only select from Baltimore here, and given they have so many S25 FAs (as of today), there's not much to choose from. The expansion teams likely won't have cap issues for the purposes of OL bots, but even so, Dolls gets picked here.
(BAL done)
So how do the rosters shake out after 2 GMs and 11 expansion players?
Berlin:
RB - Fuzzy Dotson (S18, 814 TPE)
WR - Asher Quinn (S18, 954 TPE)
WR - Ed Barker (S21, 772 TPE)
WR - Nick Kaepercolin (S22, 736 TPE)
OL - Byron Dolls (S22, 525 TPE)
TE - Leon McDavid (S21, 907 TPE)
DE - Mario VonPebbles (S22, 661 TPE)
DT - Claude Miller II (S22, 615 TPE)
DT - Yuuto Kira Cloudera (S23, 408 TPE)
LB - Hingle McCringleberry (S23, 466 TPE)
CB - Lord Beerus (S19, 1011 TPE)
S - Magnus Valdyr (S22, 553 TPE)
KP - Karmichael Hunt (S23, 428 TPE)
New York:
QB - Easton Cole (S16, 1069 TPE)
RB - Joseph Petrongolo (S23, 558 TPE)
WR - Jackson Kingston (S23, 566 TPE)
WR - Sean Snyder (S22, 536 TPE)
WR - William Alexander (S22, 594 TPE)
TE - Clark Boyd (S22, 557 TPE)
DE - Mike Karpaasi (S23, 436 TPE)
DT - Bubba Thumper (S17, 1257 TPE)
DT - Rapid Eagle (S21, 699 TPE)
LB - Jack Banks (S22, 574 TPE)
CB - Dukburg Quakstak (S25, 236 TPE)
CB - Tomage McGullager (S23, 380 TPE)
KP - Dougie Smalls (S21, 695 TPE)
Thanks for reading! And feel free to tear it to pieces!
