I think this one is interesting because in my short time in the league, it does seem like players just get replaced by carbon copies. Max earners just become all the same at a certain position.
While I don’t know the solution, I have wondered about some possibilities.
1. Make maxing out your attributes either impossible or at least much harder. I see a few ways to do this.
a) Increase the cost scale for attributes
b) Lower the starting attributes across archetypes to require more spending to reach max stats
c) Remove attribute caps while replacing the scaling to reflect how far above the minimum you are instead of the actual value of said attribute.
While I am not convinced any of these are better than the current model, the last one would allow for the most unique builds. You could specialize in an attribute much further beyond the position’s normal limits at the expense of spending the TPE in more prototypical places. Of course, all of these would need heavily balanced.
One other idea on this note would be to make traits rewards for on field performance instead of them being purchasable. Like giving the gunslinger trait to the QB who has the highest average per completion. Or giving the Box Safety trait to the safety with the most TFLs. Things like that to make traits a set of traveling trophies that players can compete for.
Brother this is what I am talking about, thank you! It is a challenging task to try and figure this out, and I also don't have the answers. But I would love to see us start to work toward something if the league can buy in to it. The field performance reward idea is awesome - but I think you would be hard pressed to get much support. A lot of people don't want to put their players fortune and fame in the hands of RNG any more than they have to. But a Madden-like X factor system would be cool. Top 5 Safeties in tackles get "box safety", Top 5 Rec Avg get "deep threat", etc. Cool idea.
