Hi all and welcome back to kdr media's coverage of the Chase for the Case (trophy case that is). With a quarter of the season gone in the ISFL and 2 weeks down in the DSFL, it is time to check in on how the top players are doing and if preseason prognostications are panning out. What you might ask goes into these ranking you might ask, well let's take a look.
First off, let's stop right there. At this point there will not be any rankings it will just be a list of the candidates. Second, since there are normally 5-6 nominees for an award, depending on category, there will be at least 6 players listed and a maximum of 10 players for each award. The awards I will be looking at are: OPOTY, DPOTY, ORPOTY, DRPOTY Since the MVP is normally just a combination of the OPOTY and DPOTY(I believe) I will not have these explicitly, but will have comments about them. All opinions are mine and mine alone and will take into account such items as: efficiency, total stats, contribution to team. Note: Rookies will be those denoted with an ® in their name in the index.
If you want to see the preseason predicted winners for these awards you can check DSFL here and the ISFL here at the bottom of the respective articles.
Now, to start with the ISFL.
OROTY
Challah Famer - WR - :Well the preseason favorite is definitely looking like a contender. His surprise switch to WR and that contract clause of WR one really gives him a jump on other rookies. He has been more steady than outstanding averaging almost 6 catches/game good for 8th in the league he is totally he also has 283 total yds and 2 TD both good enough for top 15 in the league. And only one drop so far. Sar is playing an offense where they share the ball around as all three WR are in the relatively same statistically place at this point in the season, for the 4th ranked passing offense. Famer is definitely in the conversation.
Harvin Marrison - WR - : Another WR making their case for OPOTY. He come off a season where he was the WR! for the Ultimini winning Pythons and has moved into a good position with AZ. Marrison is second on the team to B. Aguilera in most receiving categories. AZ is normally a run heavy offense and that remains true this year as the passing game is ranked dead last. He has also chipped in over 2 pancakes a game which for the position is good. They are off to a slow start, but maybe if Marrison can continue his surprise showing they can start to move up in the standings.
At this point in the season, there are not many other players on offense that have stood out from the pack or done much significant. So, I am going to highlight a couple of positions that normally don't get much love for awards for POTY.
O Line: We know that not many people want to play OL, but having a human over a bot is coveted by almost every GM, I believe. There are 2 rookies currently averaging 5 or more pancakes a game and not having allowed a say.
Klaus Reinhard has 29 pancakes, over 7/game without allowing a sack and is #4 of non-bot OL. He is teaming well with team mate S. Stack who is the #3 OL to help power the #1 overall offense in yardage.
Edith Nickelback is a converted CB and has average exactly 5 pancakes a game without a sack. The Baltimore offense iis not yet firing on all cylinders, but good numbers for a rookie.
Now Lakin Makin does have 22 sacks, but also 3 sacks which takes him out of the equation.
And now the position that gets the least love of any.
Tim Robinson K is the only kicker in the league after 4 games that is still perfect and has not missed a kick. He is 13-13 on extra points and 8-8 on FGs. Now his longest is only 38 yards, but perfect is still perfect and no one else can say that.
DROTY
FTBLLCMR4D RUS-KCKR-001 - LB - Once again our preseason predicted winner is making a case for himself. Now, Berlin is struggling mightily at 0-4, but KCKR-001 is doing what they can to help the team. They lead the team will 33 tackles, good for T8th in the league. And have an additional 1 INT and 3 PDs.
Nathan Claflin Jr - LB - The only other rookie to be averaging over 5 tackles per game, at 23 total tackles. This leads the Wraith's LB corps and is second on the team to CB Hunter. He also has added in 5 PD. Being able to hold ones own on a top 3 Defense as a rookie is no small feat.
Frosty Steele - LB - The leader of the rookie class with 3 sacks. He also has 17 tackles, and 1INT and 1 PD. He is trying to fit in with the 2 time defending champ. Now early on there are some difficulties as Nola only has 1 win and sit second from bottom in the Pineapple and Ranch Pizza Enjoyers (when did we rename the conferences, for charity I assume).
Lawrence Crawford - CB - Crawford is currently leading CB in PD, tackles and sacks at 17, 3, 2 respectively. This makes him stand out above his fellow players. He is forming a solid trio at CB with Nugget and Vert as Baltimore look to get one win farther in this season than the last two.
WW Jatt - DT - WW is leading all DT in the rookie class to have a sack and a TL and is second in over all tackles with 11. He is playing stout in the middle of the Osaka D who is 4th overall against the run.
OPOTY
Puddles O'Duck - QB - Last season's rookie of the year on offense and this years predicted MVP has started out well the the season. He is second in the league in passer rating at 103.2 and is tops in comp% at 69.4%. This efficiency has to start turning into putting the ball in the end zone and putting Ws on the board or he won't be in the conversation for long.
Jay Cue III - QB - Cue is starting off the season in style. Leading in Prating, second in Comp% and he has Austin in the top spot in Pineapple and Ranch Pizza Enjoyers. And it wasn't with an easy schedule so far. Handing both Hon and NY their only loss and beating the two teams that went to the Conference Finals last year, although both are struggling early. If he can keep this up he will be in with a shout with the 2nd Passing offense in the league.
Katya Zamolodchikova- QB - Say what you want about the opening game against OCO and how that padded stats, but Katya is leading the league in Passing Yards, and TD and is 3rd in Rating. After a slightly down game against YKW, they put up another two stellar games putting up 334 yds/game and throwing for 6 TDs. They were both losses as the D can't keep up with the Off yet.
Reginald Hammerfall - RB/KR - Hammerfell is showing the league why NYS traded so much for him. He comes out of the gates like a rocket. He is second in the league in rushing yards at 375, had 3 TD and has also racked up 158 receiving yards and 176 KR yards. This make for a very well rounded player to help NYS try and make the playoffs.
Purdy Mediocre - RB - Purdy leads the lead in rushing at 377 yards and just like Hammerfell he exceeds as a triple threat hauling in just about 100 receiving yards and 186 KR yards. And he even has thrown in 10 pancakes. Where he has been Mediocre is in the TD department. He has yet to dance into the end zone. And if that doesn't change he will quickly fall off this like just like his team mate O'Duck.
Julian McMorris II - RB - another RB just piling up the stats. Maybe not as prolific in the run game as the first two names mentioned, but more than makes up for that in his overall play. He has 221 yards both as a runner and receiver and does double duty as both a KR/PR specialist racking up 102 and 101 return yard respectively. He has also scored 5 total touch downs already.
Anakin Skywalker - RB - This is more of a you have to drag the trophy from my cold hand recognition. He is the defending MVP and has start ok if not in dominant fashion. $ total TDs, almost 400 total yards. His RB mate seems to have over taken him slightly and maybe by next week he will be over taken here, but one week for the past.
Dru Freduci - WR - Leads the league in both TD and receiving yards and is third in catches, 2nd among WR. What more do we need to say. CTC is one of the many currently 3-1 teams and a large reason why Passing game and defense. The young WR is in the running.
María Teresa de la Rosa - WR - Maybe the other reason Skywalker is down in yards is because the passing game is up. de la Rosa is ties for the lead with 391 receiving yards and 3 TDs on 26 catches. He also is averaging 33.2 yds/KR which starts Baltimore in positive field position.
DPOTY
Crasher Wake - LB - Second in the league in Sacks (5) and tackles (38) and with many others with 2 FF, crash is leading the defensive side of the Austin resurgence. With the #1 defense for giving up points. He is a big reason why Austin is 3 - 1 to start the season.
Thomas Sutha - LB - Sutha leads the league with 6 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries and has a very respectable 34 tackles. Also chipping in 2 TFL, 1 FF, and 2 PD he is anchoring a stingy AZ defense that is ranked 2nd in the league in Points and Passing. If the offense can follow suit they could turn the season around.
Roquefort Cotswold - CB - Cotswold is off to a quick start, leading the league in PD (14) and INT (4) and also ties with 1 defensive TD. He also has 26 tackles, which is tied for 2nd among CBs. Honolulu's defense is not high in the rankings, but that isn't because of Cotswold's play.
Luigi Numberone - CB - Tied for the league lead in PD with 14, Luigi isn't far behind Roquefort. He has 3 INTs, 21 tackles and also has scored a TD. He is a mighty contributor to the #1 pass defense in the league which also stacks up as the #1 yardage defense and #2 in the league in not giving up points.
Carter Goad - DT - Leading all DL in both Sacks (4) and tackles (23) Goad has started as a rock in the middle for the NYS. He also has 2 TL while stuffing up the middle of the field.
Luke Hunter - S - Hunter leads all Ss with 30 tackles. They also have 3 FF and 2 INTs and 1 def TD. He has also swatted down 6 PDs. YKW are expected to contend for the Ultimus and Hunter is doing his part.
At this point if they keep up their early season pace there are 3 players I would put in the top of the race for MVP:
Katya Zamolodchikova: trying to start the resurgence of a forever in the basement Yeti team recently, the defense has to play better to get some wins on the board, but her out put speaks for itself.
Reginald Hammerfall: New look in NYS is going well so far and Reginald is piling up the stats and helping NYS in many different ways.
Crasher Wake - on the defensive side Crasher is leading the first place Copperheads. Can he continue the pace and keep them on top?
Now it would be onto the DSFL, except they only played 1 game, which isn't really enough to base anything on. So, with that we will bid you a fond farewell and hold the DSFL until next time.
