After a several hour long discussion about the state of the DSFL over the weekend, it’s nice to wake up refreshed and ready for the day. A clean slate, ready to focus on managing the team to the best of my ability.

But first let me write 100 words of this 600 word essay required for me to get this ultimus week credit. This is obviously going to aid the community more than running the team.

Right, with that out of the way, it’s the final game of the regular season tonight, a day earlier in the week than normal, which I didn’t prepare for because yesterday I was selfish enough to watch the Super Bowl. No harm done, just an hour or so of simming, talking tactics with my war room, and then inevitably planning further ahead for our playoff game that we somehow managed to get to with a team of rookies.

But first let me write the next 100 words of this 600 word essay required for me to get this ultimus week credit. This is obviously going to aid the community more than simming games and trying to get wins for my players..

Then later on I need to touch base with several of my players and their ISFL GMs to get an idea of who we need to draft in the off season. And then, of course, we’re gonna weigh that against the incoming rookies, both recreates and newbies. Would be nice to know if we’re going to lose our star running back, and need to replace him. Ah well, never mind, we’ll add it to the list of “maybes”.

But first let me write ANOTHER 100 words of this 600 word essay required for me to get this ultimus week credit. This is obviously going to aid the community more than scouting new players and figuring out who’s going where.

The scouting process is a tough one. It’s hard on the rookies who have to answer the same questions from 8 DSFL teams or up to 14 ISFL teams, depending on the draft they’re entering. But it’s also hard on the GMs who have to scout these people. Gets particularly hard when you’re trying to circumvent players who will only play for Team X, or new users who have already left. Finding those diamonds in the rough who show up brand new and contribute to the league is a strenuous battle, but in the end it’s certainly rewarding once it pays off.

We’ll get to that once we type this next 100 words in this 600 word essay that is completely a necessary use of our time.

It’s been about 4 months since I became a GM, covering about one and a half seasons, and an extra long off-season in the middle of all that. It’s definitely been a slog, but you gotta feel good about seeing the progress being made after taking over a struggling team with only 3 active players. So while it’s easy to bitch about this stuff, it’s often worth it in the end when you can see a physical improvement in the league in the shape of new users sticking around with your team.

But let’s not dwell on that, let’s write another 100 words so we can get closer to our 600 word target, because why would someone who does this much need a UW pass?

Here’s to another great year gone, and another coming next. Finally, once I finish 2.5 seasons of running a team, I will have done enough to not have to write up these 600 words. Amen.

Tier 1, Task 5

The league has a rich and fascinating history, and our perspectives on it differ from person to person. In 600 words or more, describe any significant moment in ISFL or DSFL history, whether you were around for it or not. Describe the context, the significant members, and the events. What exactly made this event so famous (or infamous) and why does it deserve to be remembered? Events might include championship wins, the inducting of players to the hall of fame, or even a league scandal.



Here's a fun minor scandal for the two or three people that actually read through the Ultimus Week responses.

On February 28, 2018, a thread called Moderation Suspension was posted to the league punishments forum. In it, the esteemed long-time member of Head Office iamslm22 put out a short punishment for a user named Pens, who had apparently gone through and edited the names of 24 separate player pages using his moderation powers as a member of the Player Progession Team. Nothing in the posts themselves, mind you, just the titles. Needless to say, despite the name of the PPT, they have no reason to ever be editing player pages regardless of how mundane those changes seem to be, and Pens was docked $2 million and suspended two seasons from holding moderation powers.

This seems like the type of inane, minor punishment post that justifies maybe four or five replies, tops. Instead, it currently has the seventh most replies of any punishment thread in history.

There was initial confusion over the punishment of course, since the crime seemed so out of the blue. Slm clarified that nothing was substantially altered in the player page titles sans formatting and rearranging certain info, for example changing "Gimmy Jarappolo God Updates Season 15" to "(S15) – Gimmy Jarappolo – God – Updates" and whatnot. Pens would leap in to give his reasoning, saying that he was actually trying to do research for an article and that the multitude of player page titles not following the correct format just made things too hard to handle. He also went on to say that this punishment dropped his league interest substantially if he was going to be punished "for cleaning up other people's mistakes".

One camp, led by slm and HO, argued that "cleaning up other people's mistakes" wasn't his job and that he was actually increasing HO's workload quite a bit by forcing them to cross-reference a bunch of player pages to confirm that there hadn't been any untoward manipulation of numbers. They also noted that the punishment itself really wasn't all that extreme and that leaving the league over something so trivial would be a shame for an active new-ish user.

A second camp emerged, led by Dangles and Jiggly, that the entire concept of punishing Pens for helping out was stupid because changing all of the thread names was nothing but beneficial. It was also noted that there was no explicit rule against what Pens had done and that maybe Pens just had no idea that what he was doing was wrong.

Pens responded again in the thread, quoting the rulebook as "Any user who abuses moderation powers in order to alter (without permission or valid reasoning) another users post, topic, or reply will be given the follow punishments…" and saying that he had valid reasoning, which slm immediately countered by saying that editing 24 pages without talking to anyone first wasn't valid reasoning, to which RainDelay said that his motives justified him in the end and that there shouldn't have been a punishment once those were clarified, to which Oles said that intent shouldn't play a factor in the punishment and that the rules were the rules, to which jaskins811 said that it actually was valid reasoning and you shouldn't punish a rookie for not knowing the rules, to which Oles said nuh uh, to which…

(This goes on for quite a while, hence the mutltitude of replies.)

Did this result in much? No, not really. Pens was true to his word and didn't stick around for long after the punishment. Meanwhile, all we are left to pull from this story is this quote from slm that I find really funny in response to someone saying HO was out of touch:

Bro I could shit out literal gold and you find a problem with it. If we announced that he did all of this and didn't punish at all I'm 100% certain you would be posting in here talking about how soft HO is.

22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do?

The Ultimus halftime show is going 21st century, finally no more songs being performed that were released when I was in elementary school or wanna be michael jackson clones. This Ultimus we are bringing out the big guns and going with the Fortnite in game tribute featuring Ninja, Travis Scott, Marshmellow, and many other special guests including some ISFL players like Bern Brot, Dexter Zarlyren and GOAT TANK. The whole show will be interactive and able to be played/ watched along with in Fortnite. You can be the star of the show and get victory royale live during the Ultimus. So make sure to stock up on that chug juice, watch out for the golden scar and use fortnite creator code PIZZA for all items at the shop and for all your ultimus champion merch. Oh did i mention the halftime show is sponsored by Gfuel in partnership with Doritos. If you dont have access to Fortnite to watch it will be displayed on YouTube for all to see as well.

25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why?

if I had to pick a different position to play other than defensive tackle I think I would go with a wide receiver or cornerback but try to focus on being a return specialist. I always grew up really enjoying watching return specialists like Devin Hester, Allen Rossum and Darren Sproles just do magic whenever they got the ball from a punt or kickoff. It was like watching a person go through a maze of booby traps and scurrying to the end. So obviously I would be agile, speedy and have great catching and break tackle ability. To be honest I have no clue how the sim handles special teams plays, does the normal defense and some bots get thrown out on kickoffs? I might have to ask my GMs about this. Anyway I might try this when I recreate but it might be kind of annoying to be that specific and be kind of sucky during my normal position. Hmmm we shall see.

10. Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.

Pizzaman is having his worst season yet as far as individual performance, but teamwise this is his first time in the playoffs in either the DSFL or ISFL and he is happy to be along for the rise. Lets look at how he got here shall we? Ok, So Dominos Pizzaman was drafted in the first round in the season thirty draft in the ISFL, he was the seventh pick and the Otters put a lot on his plate when he was finally called up in season 31. He stepped up to the challenge and miraculously won Defensive Rookie of the year even though he had a press release that Teddy Murphy should have won. The next season was another strong one for Pizzaman as he racked up 9 tackles for loss. Both seasons his otters finished well out of a playoff spot but finally in Season 33 they received their first berth in 8 seasons. This is only the start for the Otters as they are still a very young offensive team and have a lot to look forward to on the defense as far as their up and coming talent. Pizzaman is having a very unselfish season in S33 as he is battling in the trenches up front and letting his young gun crew of Will Stern and Leonardo McTurtle rack up some sacks and tackles for loss and causing disruption in the passing game allowing his secondary to break up and intercept a number of passes this season. I think the main driver behind this change of attitude and direction was his focus on Bull Rushing and drawing a lot of double team packages from the opposing lineman. I'd say its paid dividends for him and his team. Pizza has had his share of the limelight and now its time to buckle down and start helping out his team by doing his job and putting his head down and making an impact in the intangibles and unquantifiable aspects of the games.

22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do?

The Ultimus halftime show would start with a flyover of hot air balloons that were manufactured by Amazon with the ability to reach outer space. As they pass the stadium, 50 footballs that will be used for the 2nd half are delivered via cannon. They are caught by the 50 best players in the DSFL and and handed to the referees, umpires, and line judges. The balls are inspected and the ones deemed fit are added to the game rotation. After that, robotic music is played by deepfake AI specimens. They are made to look like famous musicians of the past, and the voices are created with millions of lines of code to create a unique experience. As the 20 minute show ends, tiny elephants appear on the roof and they walk in unison to the tune of Macarena. When that subsides, the fans do a throwback to the 1980s and start the wave. As it makes it way around 10 times, it abruptly ends. Now the 3rd quarter kickoff is next.

Tier 1.1

From the ASFC we have the perennial resular season powerhouse Arizona who cruised through another season with barely any blips to a 12-4 record and I believe brought home another trophy due to their tiebreaker over Sarasota. They were the best team in the regular season and home field advantage is going to help them out in their quest for the championship this season.

Second place locked up before the final week of games to the Orange County Otters. Now, think back to the start of the season, heck even go to offseason. If I tell you OCO is going to hold second place in the conference you would rightfully laugh me out of town. They started 3 pure rookies, last season they traded away one of the top running backs in the league. Consensus is they are a growing team, but they still have a fair ways to go for their prime time. They are playing above their weight class, with a ton of potential to go, but they have been able to hand defeat to the likes of Arizona and Sarasota this season already, could they be playing spoiler again to these top teams?

Austin came in as early season championship favorites (according to the casino at least) and this author is very disappointed they hit under on their 8.5 mark. Barely though as they finished the regular season 8-8 which was good for 3rd place and a playoff birth. They fell to OCO last night in the first game, amid a season that seemed full of stumbles. They started not super strong out of the gate.

In the NSFC we have conference leaders Sarasota who put together a real strong campaign. Wins wise they tied Arizona atop the league in the division that is seen by most as the more competitive of the two. Because of their success in the more difficult circumstances, many people believe them to be bowl favorites heading into the playoffs and they are looking to play their first game Wednesday night.

Baltimore has been long talked about as the rebuild story. They triggered a rebuild a few seasons ago and loaded up on draft picks. They hit a lot of these picks and generally did everything you want to in a rebuilding team. They got no sim luck. They hung out around the league basement for too long. Heading into this season they were successful in convincing a slew of free agents to join with them on their quest and that seems to be the trigger they needed to elevate themselves. Holding an 11-5 record, and finishing just 1 win behind Sarasota they finally had their winning season and want to see it continue that was in the post season. They were already able to hold their home field advantage against Chicago winning the playoff game and look to clash with the tough Sailfish on Wednesday night in a great looking game.

Chicago beat out teams like Berlin and Colorado for the final playoff spot in the NSFC. Those both finished 1 game back of Chicago’s 10-6 record and were nipping at their heels to get in. Chicago had a 3 game winning streak to finish off the season just to make the playoffs so even though they lost out in the first game I think you can call their season a success. They had their backs against the wall and they won out their remaining games to clinch.  They have a relatively young team with S27 being the core and then a bunch of talent filtering in after that so they should be looking like a bright spot for a little while.

Moving on to the DSFL, a familiar matchup in the South between Tijuana and Norfolk. Norfolk was pretty gutted after winning the bowl last season and started the season on a pretty rough patch. They were able to turn things around though and creep their way up the standing until they eventually got hold of 2nd through a tiebreak, and some luck with Bondi Beach losing.

Tijuana was also picked pretty clean. Losing 2 important pieces of their team to pure rookie callus, just imagine the D line with those studs in the line up with them? They plowed on not worried about that and refilled the tank onto a powerful 10-4 season.

North has 2 new teams, showing that the rotation works kindof. Minnesota and Kansas made it this season after sitting on the side last season. Minnesota built through the draft and didn’t lose much coming in to this season, so they have strength of a veteran squad. They are also on a 4 game win streak heading in so they will absolutely be looking to make this a remembered season.

Kansas had a fine season at 7-7. They had good parts, and rough parts. They won enough to make it to the dance and now look to play spoiler.

The playoffs are anyone’s game, and one mistake can be the dagger.

Task 17

So the Tijuana Luchadores are building a new stadium and need some ideas for what to include. I think for sure we need to have a taco guy at the top of every section of seats. I would not want any fan to go more than 2 minutes without seeing a taco. Also I think since we are the luchadores we have to have a ring in the stadium somewhere. I think it would look good at the end of one of the endzones. We could even have a few wrestlers who do crazy tricks and slams whenever we score a touchdown. I think it would be a great chance to show the pride our fans have and also just something that is out of left field. One other thing we should have in our stadium is free margaritas and cervezas for all. We would put a cap of 4 per person so people would not get out of hand.

Task 25

If i couldnt create as a safety I am not really sure what other position I would try out. I really enjoy the defensive side of the ball and would probably stick to that side. My last player was a linebacker so I dont see me doing that route again but it could be a possibility. I think cornerback would be fun since you can get those one on one battles with wide receivers. I dont know how much I would like being the sole person responsible for a blown coverage but that can still happen at safety. Defensive Line would be fun too but a lot of their efforts go unnoticed on the box score. Cornerback would allow me to role play the egotistical superstar which could be fun but only if my player had the talent on the field to back it up. No one likes a person who is bad at a sport but acts like they are the best.

Task 27

Without a doubt the tijuana luchadores have the best branding in the league. Their logo strikes fear in the hearts of their opponents and often times it is said that they wake up sweating the night after playing Tijuana with nightmares of a luchadore choking them out. The colors are S tier with them all complementing each other and just making you feel warm and scared at the same time. Then we get to the luchadore himself. I mean just look at this guy! He is someone I would want to go to battle with and looks like he can hold his own in a brawl. I dont think any other logo or branding can compete with the brilliance that is the Tijuana Luchadores. Some of these teams have the most horrible color schemes like bright neon colors that look like they are from a lite-brite or just a swirl of leftover neon glowsticks from EDC. Bottom Line just like the Wu Tang Clan, Luchadores branding aint nuthin to f**k with.
