NSFL Mid-Season RB Rankings vs NSFL End-Season RB Rankings
As the NSFL has arrived at the middle of the season, it would be a good idea to see which running back is currently having the best season thus far.
Ranking based off total rushing yards:
1. Sam Torrenson - 864 yards
2. Terry Taffy - 819 yards
3. Dick Wizandry - 818 yards
4. Marquise Brown - 773 yards
5.Slim Shady - 639 yards
6. Forrest Gump - 612 yards
This ranking doesn't make sense because it doesn't account for efficiency or how good the team is or anything. So below I'll make a personal ranking of who I feel are the top 10 running backs, and we will compare how similar they are.

1. Marquise Brown
2. Sam Torrenson
3. Slim Shady
4. Dick Wizandry
5. Terry Taffy
6. Forest Gump
Lets break down the reasonings for these selections
#1 Marquise Brown
Brown has remained one of the top NSFL running backs for quite some time now. He is apart of the reigning champions, the Baltimore Hawks. They have a pretty stacked team, from head to toe, especially on their offense. Brown shares the ball with Dorfus Jimbo and Ludicolo Bigby. They aren’t getting a ton of touches as they sit at 33 attempts and 24 attempts respectively, but they still eat a bit of Brown’s touches. Brown is also a highly-efficient back too. Outside of all running backs above 50 touches, Brown is the second in yards per attempt at 4.7, just .2 #1 Morgan Marshall. Brown is pretty multi faceted, and is a talented through the air as well, snagging 154 receiving yards to pair with his rushing yards. This is even more impressive when you consider the receivers that he has on his squad-- Errol Maddox is third among all players in receiving yards with 787 yards, easily on pace for a 1000 on the season. Next, a bit under 300 behind Maddox is Nagasawa, who is just a bit outside of the top 10. Nextly Verso L’Alto adds even another receiving threat at 383 yards. And finally after all these good receivers, Marquise Brown is still able to get receiving yards. He’s 11th in receiving yards amongst running backs, and amongst a crowded pool of talented receivers.
#2 Sam Torenson
Sam Torenson is a newcomer to the NSFL, but he’s having a hell of a rookie season and is most likely in contention for ROTY. It's even more impressive that he’s playing alongside Danielsson, thats got nearly 350 yards on 74 attempts. Having another running back take a lot of attempts and still ending up #1 on the total running back yards is mighty impressive. It’s not like he plays on a bottomfeeder team either. Rose Jenkins is a talented quarterback and has a talented pair of top receiver (technically a receiver and tight end duo). Its impressive that Torenson is able to get touches when there are some darn good receivers who also need the ball. It’s mainly the efforts of Torrenson that have propelled the Butchers to the #1 rushing yards in their conference and 3rd in the league.
Why he wasn’t #1: Both Brown and Torenson play on top teams that are projected as top contenders for an ultimus. The difference is probably Brown’s efficiency and receiving abilities. Torenson isn’t the most talented receiver--only posting 19 receiving yards. Brown has 927 all-purpose yards so far, whilst Torenson’s got 883 all-purpose yards. Brown averages .4 more than Torenson. That number seems small, but over the course of 100’s attempts, those can really add up.
#3 Slim Shady
Slim Shady has been a top NSFL RB for awhile as well--so its not surprising to see him so high up on this list. Slim Shady plays in a pretty crowded running back room, which could be a possible reasoning for the lower rushing yards. Murphy and Zephyrous combined for 93 attempts and 448 yards, a total that is just under 200 shy of Shady’s total yards. Similar to the other two running backs on this list, Shady plays for a pretty good Arizona squad. Reese is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, with rising stars Landers and Knight being prime targets for him. He’s able to get some receiving yards despite good receivers, as he has caught 135 receiving yards. His team is not nearly as offensively stacked as the Hawks or the Butchers, but it has some talent on it.
Why he wasn’t #2: He has less all-purpose yards than Torenson--despite Torenson playing on a better, more stacked team. Shady does close the gap with his receiving abilities, but he will need to prove a bit more if he wants to leapfrog Torenson, and he will need to show quite a bit more if he wants to leapfrog Brown to be the #1 running back this season.
#4 Dick Wizandry
Dick Wizandry was a high-value running back in Yellowknife, and he still remains high-value in Austin. Despite such high yards, the reason he fell was because of the strength of his team. Austin is dead last in their division, at 0-8. Easton Cole, Rod Tidwell, and other young pieces of this offense are still developing. Wizandry’s a good player, don't get me wrong, but his team just isn't there yet, so he’s largely in charge of the offense. Credit to Wizandry, he's somehow carried the Austin Copperhands to the 6th rushing offense in the league, which is impressive when you consider his fellow running backs. Mendoca is young and needs time to develop, and outside Mendoca, the rest are bots.
Why he wasn’t #3: Despite a similar number of yards, his team just isn’t as good as the rest, which inflates his stats a bit much. His stats should decrease as the season progresses and his team improves. If they continue to grow/maintain at his current rate, maybe he might be moved up by the end of the season.
#5 Terry Taffy
Taffy is in the same situation as Wizardry. Good back on a rebuilding team. Taffy’s high yardage makes 4 and 5 interchangeable, with arguments made either way. Taffy’s has helped his team obtain the 7th best rushing offense in the league. Taffy has maintained a string of impressive performances as of late. If he can continue to keep up the good work, he might be able to make a noticeable climb in this list come the end of the season.
Why he wasn’t #4: Similar team situations, although Wizandry has more all purpose yardage. Interchangeable and an argument either way.
#6 Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is another S15 back that’s enjoying a fairly good season. An above-average season. Gump is another speedy back. He’s putting up pretty good numbers whilst sharing the backfield with Tyler Swift, another running back in the top 10 for yards. Gump’s biggest assest is his speed-- he easily ranks amongst the fastest NSFL players. He is a monster in open fields and very good at getting touchdowns. Amongst all NSFL running backs he is currently 5th in most touchdowns. Even better, fellow running back Tyler Swift is 2nd in most touchdowns. Gump is over half of the best rushing offense in the NSFL, and that already potent offense will improve with Gump’s improvement.
Why he wasn’t #5: #5 and #4’s total rushing yards are over 200’s Gumps. Gump could be primed for a jump in the standings however if he can continue to perform come close to playoff time.

One thing that pops out here is the lack of Slim Shady. On the mid-season rankings 5th in total
yards but 3rd in taffy formula. This is probably because Shady is also used as a receiver, which can lower his rushing yards. Swift has run his way onto the top 6 and Gump has leapfrogged to take Shady’s old spot. Below is a ranking using the Taffy formula

#1 Sam Torrenson
It's crazy that a rookie has done so well in his rookie year. Torenson was ranked as the 2nd best running back and has climbed to the first place spot. He is a massive reason why Chicago is the 2nd best rushing offense in the league. Let me reiterate, Torenson is a rookie. He isn’t farming stats on a scrub team either, Chicago led their division and made it to the NSFC. They have a very talented QB in Rose Jenkins and quality receivers. That does not constitute as a bad team by any measure. As long as Torenson continues to run his heart out, Chicago should improve as he continues to improve.
#2 Marquise Brown
His team, the Baltimore Hawks fell a bit short in the pursuit of another Ultimini, getting eliminated by Torrenson’s Butchers, but Brown still had a good year. He’s a huge reason behind is team success of late, but they’ve had to deal with a wonderful player in Childish Gambino’s retirement which obviously put a noticeable hole in the team. He caught 267 yards in the air and 1172 rushing. He hasn’t really lost a step. His efforts in rushing have resulted in the fourth best rushing offense in the league. The Hawks have a really balanced approach to offense anyways, as they also have the 5th best passing offense in the league. Brown is a potential game changer for the Hawks, and if he has another crazy season we can expect the Hawks to get even better.
#3 Slim Shady
Shady’s only added about 300 more rushing yards since the midseason which is alot lower than some others but his team has had the most success compared to anyone on this list. He’s been an integral part of his teams success as well, posting the most rushing yards on the Outlaws roster. He’s caught the most receiving yards amongst all running backs, catching 363 through the air. Shady’s high-level of play will continue to benefit the defending champions, and if he can have a year like this again, we might see Arizona become back to back champions.
#4 Dick Wizandry
Wizandry had an amazing season--posting 1259 yards on 305 attempts. The only issue though, his team didn’t. His team, the Austin Copperheads, went an disappointing 0-13. Credit to Wizandry, he essistentally single handedly carried the Copperhands to the 6th best rushing offense in the league. The team is still young and developing which can be a reason why Wizandry had such an amazing season. If he can continue these kind of performances next season, he might be up there in the discussion. Wizandry was a diamond in the rough for the Copperheads, but his performance was more expected as he is the defacto #1 player on a bottom team.
#5 Forrest Gump
Gump had a great season splitting touches with Tyler Swift, both tagging atleast 900 rushing yards. Their joint effort created the #1 rushing offense in the league. Much of their offense is based off running though, as the Second Line had the 8th best passing offense in the league. Gump is a speedster who had a fantastic year on a decent team that sat just out of the playoff picture. Similarly to Wizandry, if Gump can continue his good performances (and Swift aswell) Second Line can look to a potential playoff spot next year.
#6. Terry Taffy
Taffy joins Gump as the only other sophomore player on this list. Taffy had a wild year too, posting 1221 rushing yards, and also catching another 288 yards. The issue-- Taffy didn’t play on a wildly successful squad. The Yeti ended the season a bleak 1-12, their only win comes from the Tank bowl, a game in which Taffy ran from 117 yards, and had a touchdown. The Yeti also lack the running back depth many other teams have. Carrasco, the 2nd highest runner on Colorado’s offense had 349 yards. The Yeti have shown significant progress, and if they can develop their talent and add in free agency and the draft they could be one hell of a team. If Taffy can continue to run his legs off as his team improves and adds depth, and can start being in the discussion of #1 and #2 spots.
