Oh god damnit you asking me about Ultimus dreams? Seriously dude I've made probably the most cursed quarterback in the history of the league in terms of playoff success. I could never win an Ultimini in SA no matter how many times I had home field advantage in the playoffs. Then I go to Yellowknife and with 4 trips to the NSFC Championship game and 5 playoff trips total in my career I still can't get the damn job done. Three seasons in a row I went to the Ultimus with HFA and all three I lost. And here I am with my team and my player winding down after so many seasons of dominance and I have a full road trip in the playoffs to try and get back there again, no telling if I can even win it if I do. It really sucks to have to face the reality that my quarterback is basically Jim Kelly and my legacy will be delivering elite regular season wins yet failing to put it together in the playoffs time and time again. So am I going to sit here and say I deserve an Ultimus win? Or that our team does? I don't know I don't think anyone deserves one but we sure as shit tried hard to get as good as we were and while I don't need a dynasty, one win in there would have been pretty nice if you ask me.

It wasn’t very sunny in Philadelphia this year. Still fresh in the middle of a team rebuild, the Liberty briefly glimpsed playoff contention before falling to the record of 3-10, possibly the worst team in the league. However, Philadelphia’s lack of contention now is only prologue for the team’s incoming rise. Thanks to our wonderful GMs swindling the dwindling Chicago Butchers, we have a treasure trove of early round picks in the largest and deepest draft of NSFL history. These rookies will be invaluable to a team slowly phasing out an aging S15 core, especially since young quarterback Brock Phoenix is growing into the prime of his career with a steady stable of weapons in the air and on the ground while three of our division rivals (Yellowknife, Baltimore, and Chicago) will be starting S14 quarterbacks now treading deeper into the muck of regression. Other young players on the team, including the rightful Punter of the Year Venus Powers and star receiver Randy Vuxta, will take even more steps and training to become league superstars, and Venus will become the league’s highest TPE kicker as of this offseason. Team morale and locker room culture has never been better, and within a season or two the Liberty should be in the prime position to take aim for the stars and bring home a second trophy to Philadelphia.

Despite their 0-2 start, the Portland Pythons managed to steer an even course before finishing the season with two big wins that pushed us to 8-6. As a result, we comfortably entered the playoffs in the NFC's wildcard position. Whilst this position (and the accompanying lack of home-field advantage) certainly wouldn't make us the favourite to win the Ultimini, we're nonetheless in a great position to do so. The ultimate strength of the Pythons is how balanced and lethal we are across all phases of the game. Our QB leads the league in attempts, completions and yards, whilst being one behind the joint leaders in touchdowns. Interceptions are admittedly a concern, but O'Donnell has shown that he can win the game with his arm, even whilst giving the opposition a couple freebies. Our air-game is balanced by the unrelenting force of our run-game, where Nakamura, Keppler and our redoubtable OL corps have shown themselves capable of grinding out the opposition when necessary. Even O'Donnell himself has rattled off 6.5 yards per rush on 12 carries. Our run game might not be the league leader but we’ve enough wins to show that it works. Overall, the Portland offense has shown the ability to 'get it done', but the undisputed gem of the Pythons is our strangling defense. The first defense in points, 3rd in rush yards and 2nd in passing yards. We lead the league in tackles for loss, forced fumbles and interceptions. This is the product of having multiple defensive players leading defensive stats at their positions. This all-around nature of the Python's roster gives our GMs the tools and flexibility to build against any threat we’ll face in the playoffs and will win us an Ultimini.

I'll do this from a GM perspective since my player is just a waiver claim on a team already out of the playoffs and not drafted to even the DSFL yet.
In order to become a title contender, the Hahalua are going to have one hell of a road to competing. We have checked the projected pool for the expansion draft, and for the most part, its old and shitty. Needless to say, that is not ideal. This means we have two goals: Get all the actually good talent we can, and make trades for future assets with the assets that dont line up with our long term plans. The next plan is to absolutely load up on this S22 draft. We have already done a solid job of that in our opinion with trading 1st overall and getting 4 picks in exchange for two. With the first pick in each round, outside of the 1st and 7th, we should be able to gather a bunch of really good prospects. Our main goal is to get users who we think are great first and foremost. In these first seasons, a good LR is a lot more important than a good system, so we want to find the people who gel together and make this team a fun one first and foremost
The best case as to why the Portland Pythons will win the Ultimini is simple. We have an elite defensive backfield that leads a suffocating defense. While our offense may not be the best in the league, our defense is certainly a top 2 team, leading in points allowed with a staggering 15.8 points allowed. They are top 3 in every other major category for defense as well, being 2nd in the conference in yards allowed, rushing yards allowed, and passing yards allowed, while being 3rd in the lead for yards and rush yards and 2nd for passing yards. This team can make a run based on the defense wins championships mantra, whether it’s the defensive backs locking down your passing game or the front 7 stopping the run and not even allowing the QB to get his passes off accurately. This is a scary team that is peaking at the right time, having won their last two games. They’ve not allowed more that 14 points since week 9, when they beat the Buccaneers 33-21. There are not many games where they allowed more than 2 scores and over 20 points, and this is why they will make a serious run at the Ultimini this season. They are a team to be worried about in the playoffs this season. (219 words)
