Alright, I was watching the draft last night, and as most people who were in the Python discord could tell you, I got annoyed. I went deep in the third round for the DSFL draft, and was fine with that. I thought that if I made a good name for myself, I could possibly move up.
So I had a couple good scouting conversations, continued to boost my TPE. Did all the things you were supposed to do, say you're fine changing positions if necessary when asked, prepped, and then comes Draft Day.
GMs, what happened on Draft Day? I thought I had good talks with a lot of you, although notably I didn't/couldn't do that with the Outlaws. Now, there's a lot of picks I was perfectly fine seeing before me, from my top tier teammates like Dan Foster and Chuck Roth, to the guys we all knew were going high like GOAT TANK, Tex Wrecks, and Swantavious Jones.
Now, I know there's more important things to the draft process than just the number next to your name. Having a good relationship with other people, bringing something to the table that makes you stand out from everyone else. Now, I thought I had that with the fact that I had the largest bank account of any non recreate S25 Rookie. Or at least one of the largest, not sure where everyone else is now.
So, we get to the third round, and we finally see the first running back off the board. It's Jameson Vermillion, who was understandable. I personally think I'm a better prospect than him, but if I am it's not by much, he had a couple more TPE than me at the time of the draft and still has it, and his first year in the DSFL was almost worthy of a OROY award. Seeing him as the first Running Back off the board wasn't surprising.
A couple picks later, we had what I believe was the first player with sub 200 TPE off the board: Damian Blackfyre, who is understandable considering that they started later than most of the others, and also had a massive bank account. They're up to 267 now.
Then the Otters had 2 picks in a row. I had a pretty good draft conversation with the Otters, in my opinion, and had a specific question asked to me that was very similar to a question asked to me by the Pythons before they drafted me. The Otters were one of the teams I considered most likely to draft me for those reasons.
First pick, Owen Holloway.
Holloway is interesting. For one, when he created, it looked like he was going for the broken 79 speed build for a Game Manager QB. Then he changed to wide receiver. Spec is a well known user who's been around for a long time. I had no real problems with this pick.
Then the 40th overall pick.
Second pick, Bronko Mills.
...you serious?
Alright, on one hand, Payton as a user created in 2017. He has had 2 players go through the ISFL already. If you look at just the stats of the DSFL, Bronko Mills being the second running back off the board doesn't seem like that big of an issue considering he was in the running for the running back of the year, as well as OROY. He even ended up winning the latter!
Now on the other hand. Look past the stats, the 5 yards per carry, and look at that TPE!
163. I had 228 at the time of the draft card. But let's look a bit deeper! Right now, Payton has less than 1 million in the bank, and hasn't paid for his training for this week. Or claimed this week's activity check, for that matter. Granted, Payton is online right now so that could change, but here's the thing: Payton could get the 7 TPE from that. He could scrounge up enough money to buy Tier 6 equipment and get 30 TPE from that. He could claim his 15 TPE from his Training Camp.
Actually, while writing this, he has now claimed his training camp and activity check for the week.
You want to know what that brings his TPE up to? 213.
I have 307 right now.
Yeah, I know TPE isn't the most important thing for the draft. I don't know Payton, for all I know the benefit he gives to the team is worth his comparatively lower abilities. But as far as I know, it looks a whole lot like nepotism more than anything else.
Of course, I'm not really that angry over this, I'm just channeling it into a "profitable" situation with this article.
That being said, I am throwing down a bit of a gauntlet here. Mills isn't going to surpass me in TPE. He's not going to come close. Until I retire, I will keep that gap between me and him for the entire rest of our careers. And if I ever meet OCO in the playoffs, I'm going to enjoy making them regret passing on me.
