(S50) PT #1 - Football is Back!

María Teresa de la Rosa spent the summer primarily in shock that her general managers could be so cruel. It was a fateful meeting early after the Ultimus loss, de la Rosa still smarting and training up for revenge, that she found herself called in to talk with swoosh about an extracurricular assignment – watching a movie for every penalty and drop she accrued over the past season. She didn't think his recommendations would be that bad. After all, his first pick had been the terrific Aftersun; surely the others would be along a similar vein, cultivating a well-honed cinematic eye.

But no. Instead she spent all of her would-be vacation time watching a stupid French live action cartoon and then an even stupider real cartoon with the world's worst animated dad. When she thought this would bring a reprieve, a real film to wash off the aftertaste, swoosh instead decided in all his wisdom to give her the task of marathoning the entire Kissing Booth trilogy. She swore halfway through the first one that swoosh would have to deliver nothing less than the S50 Ultimus to soothe her fury.

After his first season of professional football with the Norfolk Seawolves, I.Q. Bowman was drafted by the reigning two time champion New Orleans Second Line. The team brought him in with the plan to allow Bowman at least one more season to stay down in the DSFL, so there was some consistency for Bowman and not a lot new to learn, which gave him a lot more time than anticipated in his off-season.

Hoping to open himself up to more new experiences after enjoying the brief parts of Bondi Beach, Tijuana, and London that he'd seen during the season, Bowman decided to spend much of the season traveling. Wanting to get a real perspective on new cultures and peoples, he stayed low to the ground through these travels, backpacking through large chunks of Europe and Asia over the course of several of the off-season months before getting locked back in ahead of the season and focusing on trying to bring the Seawolves back to the championship game to settle unfinished business.

Over the long offseason, Paul Edgecomb spent his time training up and studying the new defensive scheme of the New Orleans Second Line. Looking at taking over some new roles, spending extra time with the defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator were paramount in preparing for this upcoming season. In addition to his usual role as a safety, Edgecomb had to prepare to play cornerback and kick returner. While his physical traits are clear, training camp and pre-season alone aren't enough time to fully master the roles he will have this season. It's no small feat to learn the full playbook for two starting defensive positions, and he hasn't had a prominent role in special teams in decades. For that reason, the playbook for the Second Line did not leave his side from the time they finished celebrating the championship win until he steps on the field. There is still certainly some adjustments playing these new positions at game speed, so expect a slow start to the season for Edgecomb, who will hopefully be more confident going one on one against alpha receivers and returning kicks as soon as possible.

During the offseason this time around, Dazen Guile went to go super deep into the playbook.  Sure he's only one of the Running backs on the team, but after getting that first last season the entire team is hungry for more.  So each and every player that was on the team last season took home the playbook and tape, and were given the thoughts of looking through all of them if they wanted to, and then trying to figure out some new plays that can help everyone get better and surprise some more teams during this season.  Luckily most of the players took it to heart and spent a lot of time going through everything and seeing what they could personally change, but what they could all work on together just to make the team bigger and better.  And then those training camp group activities that were more team bonding and building than actual playing is what will make this season a success no matter what.

The Austin Copperheads didn't find great results at the end of last season. With optimism that next year would be better, Gajeel had to hit the ground running. Plans of lovely vacation trips could wait. It was time to hit the weights instead. Training up his muscles until they felt maxed out, the AUS cornerback prepared very hard for the upcoming season 50. Knowing that this season was an important and historic milestone season, the pressure was on for Gajeel and the rest of the team to really put their money where their mouth was, and show that this is an improved Copperhead squad. The team has been struggling for a few seasons, but hopefully things would turn around. After hitting the gym hard, Gajeel took to the empty Austin stadium, up high in the seats, and just stared out onto the field, visions of what could be a fantastic season ahead of him and the rest of the team.
