The S15 DSFL draft is coming up and right now there are two names at defensive backs that are catching everyone's eyes. Dermot Lavelle Jr. and Anthony Rowland have begun to be the best guys in the league and are looking to have an intense rivalry through their whole career as they fight to be the best corner back in the draft class, but let's see how these two guys stack up already.
Dermot Lavelle Jr.
Lavalle declared for the DSFL Draft on April 9th and has been a star earner ever since, quickly rising into the top of everyone's draft boards and for a good reason. Currently sitting at 98 TPE, Lavalle is a superstar in the making and will probably be one of the best corner backs to ever play. Lavelle plays an interesting game as he focuses on both major parts of the defensive back job by being good at both getting interceptions and making tackles. With 54 strength and 50 tackling, Lavelle may not be the strongest guy but he can totally drag down his receiver and make sure that the guy doesn't score. This isn't the most important attribute for a corner back though as "speed is king" from what I've been told, and this is where Lavelle seems to drop off a bit. After being rated with only 60 speed and 65 agility, Lavelle doesn't quite have the legs to be a top performing corner back. He does get a bit of a saving grace from his hands though which have a 70 rating, and he'll be a reliable option to play out the whole game with 66 endurance. In order to really be the best, Lavelle will need to work on his leg strength and getting his speed up so he can keep up with speedy quick receivers, but all in all he is already looking great.
Anthony Rowland
After seeing Lavelle who looks to be a very balanced cornerback, we now take a look at Anthony Rowland who has been described as many to be a completely one dimensional player. Rowland has earned a massive 135 TPE already since declaring on April 16th, and has gone about making sure that there isn't a single player in the league who can outrun him. Rowland is definitely one of the fastest players in the league already, with 80 speed and 70 agility which is miles ahead of his counterpart. In terms of ball coverage, Rowland takes the win here too with 65 intelligence and 71 hands. This guy can be anywhere on the field and make the catch no matter how good the receiver he's covering is. Due to the nature of his game and how hard he works, Rowland doesn't have the best endurance as it ranks at 55, ten lower than Lavelle. The biggest downfall of Rowland's game is certainly his ability to make the tackle, where his attributes are a dissapointing 40 strength and 40 tackling. This lack of ability to tackle will make him a very interesting player to watch as while he may be able to cover well, if he does let a ball slip through he won't be able to save it.
Rowland and Lavelle are both exceptional prospects who will do great things in the DSFL and NSFL some day, but they have completely different styles. While Lavelle is alright at everything and is balanced, Rowland is really good at coverage and terrible at tackling. The two players will be very fun to watch through their careers as they hope to some day be HOF.
