Ready for grading.
PB: "It's a pleasure to be here today. My name is Peter Brand, and it is my privilege to be the new general manager of the San Antonio Marshals. This is an exciting new challenge for me, and I look forward to addressing any and all questions you have. But first, I'll let my partner, Leon Maverick, introduce himself."
LM: “Thank you Peter. It’s an honour to be here and I am grateful to be brought on as the Head Coach of the San Antonio Marshal’s. I look forward to working with Peter as many of our philosophies align even though our methods may be diverse. We will now open the floor to any questions you may have.”
At this point, a familiar individual bursts into the room, catches his breath, and yells:
(09-28-2019, 12:59 PM)Baron1898 Wrote:Why was I not invited to this wtf, I thought I meant something to you!Brand chuckles a while before addressing the crowd.
PB: "I almost forgot. We are thrilled to announce that Morgan Marshall will be back with the team as an intern this season. Obviously, Mr. Marshall will be splitting time between San Antonio and Yellowknife, but when he expressed interest in learning the ropes of sports management, I knew I wanted to have him in our war room in this capacity."
(09-28-2019, 01:03 PM)CLG Rampage Wrote:Who's the goodest boy in San Antonio?PB: "I'm of the opinion that Ruff is a very, very good boy."
LM: "He is what you want in a man and a football player, loyal, observant, and smart. The best of both worlds."
(09-28-2019, 01:09 PM)Hallmonitor_20 Wrote:What do you think is the biggest need for your team?PB: "I can't be entirely sure about this until after we've seen the results of the NSFL Draft, but I think we have a solid foundation to work from, and I have complete faith that Leon will know where we need talent come draft day."
LM: "I like to keep our cards close and will happily discuss our strategy after draft day. However, as of right now Mr. Brand said it best that we have a solid foundation to work from. During the draft I have the full confidence of Mr. Brand to provide us the players to contribute to this team."
(09-28-2019, 01:09 PM)Hallmonitor_20 Wrote:Are you going to change those ugly uniforms?PB: "You know, I don't know that I have control over what Portland does with their uniforms, but maybe I can give their guy a call. What do you think, Leon?"
LM: "Portland looks like a bunch of cute bumblebees running around the field. I'll stick with our camouflage green with gold notes thank you very much!"
(09-28-2019, 01:09 PM)Hallmonitor_20 Wrote:How does it feel to be less interesting than Palm Beach?PB: "I'm not sure what you mean by 'less interesting'. I would argue San Antonio, as a team and as a city, both have a far richer history than Palm Beach does, and I'm thrilled to be a part of that history."
LM: "Let other teams take the spotlight of the glamorous night life that distracts the players. San Antonio has history, passion and a great network for their team in all aspects of life."
(09-28-2019, 01:09 PM)Hallmonitor_20 Wrote:Y dont u yeet?PB: "I think Leon can speak to this better, but we have all the tools to, as you put it, 'yeet'. We just have to find effective ways to make it happen."
LM: "You young guys and your slang. Only time will tell if we 'Yeet', but we have full confidence in Jim to make the correct adjustments in our gameplan. He is a season vet and will have more control than ever moving forward."
(09-28-2019, 01:45 PM)TomHanks Wrote:Coming in as a new GM, what do you think will have the steepest learning curve for you?PB: "I'm not especially well acquainted with the strategic aspect of the game. I come from a baseball background, kind of like Tijuana's former GM, Jimmy Dugan, so football is somewhat new to me. That's why Leon is my right hand man; my weakness is his strength. I'm elated to have him here."
LM: "Mr. Brand is bringing a unique mind into the game of football to elevate the X's & O's that I bring to the table. He is correct on how our strengths and weaknesses balance out however most importantly the secret to winning is constant, consitent management and Mr. Brand has that quality."
(09-28-2019, 01:45 PM)TomHanks Wrote:The first class you'll be drafting is significantly smaller than the previous year's class. Do you think this will make it more difficult for your first draft due to the importance of one pick, or will it be easier for you due to the smaller pool to scout?PB: "I mean, like you just said, there are pros and cons. I think the fact that we don't pick until the second round makes it tough, but I am confident we can land the talent we need to have success; some of the best talent in this league slips to later rounds."
(09-28-2019, 01:45 PM)TomHanks Wrote:What philosophy will you be trying to instill on the team?PB: "I think the most important part of the DSFL is culture. Obviously, the goal is to get these players to the next level, so my goal is to make sure our culture encourages growth. I want my players to be the ones NSFL GMs are looking at with their top picks every season, and I believe that between Leon and I, we have the tools to make that happen."
LM: "Mr. Brand is the man instilling the culture and carries himself in a way of a leader. I've always said: Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react. If you're in control, they're in control."
(09-28-2019, 01:45 PM)TomHanks Wrote:Are you planning on making major shakeups to make your mark on the team, or are you hoping to continue the work of the previous regime?PB: "I have a healthy respect for the work Taco and Stringer did with this team, and I don't think we have to make drastic changes to continue a tradition of excellence here. My goal here is to continue building talented rosters, and to keep producing some of the most recognizable names at the next level."
@TomHanks LM: “I echo Mr. Brand on having the utmost respect for Mr. Bell and Mr. MacArthur. They laid a solid foundation with great morals. I am going to use the talented roster Mr. Brand gives me to keep producing top-level talent. Example being this last draft they produced six players in the top twenty and nine in the top thirty. Even though this is a smaller draft class, we are trying to uphold the standard that is laid before us.”
(09-28-2019, 09:11 PM)Sermokala Wrote:Are you going to prioritize the bathroom situation in SA or are you going to kick that can down the road like your predecessors. There's no way a large animal can get in there and safely use the facilities and clearly the team is going to draft larger animals in the future.PB: "We're definitely hoping that our resources allow us to continue to make San Antonio as nice a place for prospects as possible. I'm not sure the bathroom situation is our top priority, but it is something that is on our list."
At this point, a familiar face pops his head up from the crowd: Tyrone Biggums, San Antonio wide receiver.
(09-29-2019, 03:12 PM)Revolution5 Wrote:Yo Peter! The former GM gave us hype GIF's on game day. What do you plan to bring to the locker room before a game?PB: "It is my full intention to continue the tradition of bringing energy to the locker room. That is critical to the mission of the DSFL, and San Antonio has a rich tradition of being among the best in that respect. I'm not going to be the guy to bring an end to that."
(09-29-2019, 03:12 PM)Revolution5 Wrote:Coach M, I was fed the ball the first half of the season amassing 5 TD's and almost 500 yards. Last half only; one TD and half the amount of yards. A mans gotta feed his family. Am I gonna be the man next year?
LM: “Mr. Biggums it looks like you are not going to be the man for the Marshal’s next year as you’ve been called up to the big leagues. I wish you the best of luck on your new team….. but if you would of came back Mr. McMahon would have been lucky to have a pass catcher like you.
(09-29-2019, 03:12 PM)Revolution5 Wrote:Lastly, who ya'll eyeing in the draft?"PB: "I mean, even in a class as small as this one, where our first pick falls later than we would generally be comfortable with, we are confident that we can land a great talent, hopefully a couple of great talents. Obviously, what exactly we're looking for depends on what happens in the NSFL Draft, but we have faith this team will be able to add quality players to the roster."
(09-29-2019, 03:19 PM)infinitempg Wrote:With this huge S18 draft coming through, I'm sure you expect to lose quite a few players to the pros. The S19 draft looks pretty bleak in comparison - how will you plan on continuing to compete after a talent exodus?PB: "It's going to be tough, I'll tell you that. Our predecessors, Taco and Stringer, they made some great choices last draft, and while I'm happy to see so many guys from this organization with the potential to be playing at the next level this season, it puts us in a tough spot for sure. But I'm confident that Leon has some tricks up his sleeve, and with the new guys that come in, I expect we'll be able to stay at least competitive enough to make a push for the playoffs."
@infinitempgLM: His mouth slightly curls upwards into a smile and then back to the straight no frills look he’s held the entire press conference “This was quite a mass exodus of talent we had. We have a player on our roster that likes playing tricks and getting rubs that will give us some flexibility. A motto I’ve coached by is
– Coaching is simplicity. It’s getting players to play better than they think that they can. -
As history has shown us. The sim is going to sim.”
(10-04-2019, 03:21 PM)bex Wrote:You're stepping into quite a legacy here in San Antonio. How do you plan to keep the Marshal spirit alive?PB: "Obviously we're stepping into a difficult situation; we're expecting to lose a number of key players from last season, and that's never not going to be a concern. But, winning, although important, is not my top priority for this team. I believe the DSFL is about creating a healthy culture, so that the young players entering this league system are well-prepared for when they reach the next level. And I believe that Leon and I are going to be able to breed that sort of culture here. I'm really excited for the future of this franchise."
@bexLM: “ We are here to groom the players for the next level. I plan on achieving that that with an open locker room that has accountability and discipline at all levels. A fundamental I hold dearly is
- When you want to win a game, you have to teach. When you lose a game, you have to learn”
(10-04-2019, 03:21 PM)bex Wrote:Where do you see yourselves and SA in three seasons' time?PB: "That's tough to say. I have no idea what the roster will look like in three seasons, so that makes it difficult to predict what will happen. But I'm hoping to keep this team competitive, hopefully even bring this city a championship."
LM: “The DFSL is an enigma that is ever changing because of the roster turnover. So the faces in the jerseys will change but the culture, alumni and locker room chat will still be friendly and lively in three season’s time”
(10-04-2019, 08:16 PM)Duilio05 Wrote:How do you compare yourselves to your predecessors? And why are you better than them?PB: "I don't consider myself better than them. I have a ton of respect for the work Taco and Stringer did for this franchise, and I'm not going to place myself above them like that without having matched their efforts, at the very least. We'll see what the fans say down the line."
LM: “My grandmother once told me that we are all equal in the fact that we are all different. Mr. Bell has passed on his wisdom to me and I plan on building off that. Comparing men is never the answer except when you are looking within.”
(10-04-2019, 08:16 PM)Duilio05 Wrote:Is Walt Green's name still on the unknown, unopened Tupperware in the fridge?PB: "Better question: why did Walt leave his lunch in the fridge of our locker room? He should really swing back by and collect that."
(10-04-2019, 08:16 PM)Duilio05 Wrote:What changes have you made to the coaches office? I believe Stringer had a few pictures of pony's hanging up.
LM: “I scrapped everything for a clean slate. I hung up a picture of my wife, my platoon and had a few technological advancements installed to make teaching a bit easier……. I secretly moved the pony pictures to the trainers room as I knew the players adored them.”
