With as much stats looking as I do in the defensive end of the field, I am shocked to only now realize what an insane season @SchwarzNarr is having with the player Melvin Murder-Moose. For those unaware, the Linebacker is having a once in a lifetime type season, one that I believe has not been seen like this and should not just be seen as the front runner for Defensive Player of the Year, but potentially also as a main candidate for the Most Valuable Player trophy this season.
Melvin Murder-Moose has 124 tackles, which currently leads the league with one game to go. At worst, he will finish in 3rd place here. 7 tackles for losses currently rank him tied for 8th in the league, but only one behind the best other Linebacker in that category. 17 sacks is a fantastic season and currently ranks 3rd in the entire league as well as among Linebackers. 13 Passes defended is obviously nowhere near what some Cornerbacks do but among Linebackers Melvin ranks 1st yet again.
But the category where Melvin has really shined is the turnover section. Melvin has forced a record breaking eleven fumbles, three more than anyone other player and six more than the third placed players. That's almost double than anyone else in the league besides one guy. Not only that, Melvin also leads in fumbles recovered at 7. No one else has recovered more than 4, yet again basically doubling the rest of the league.
While Raske, the cornerback, has 7 interceptions and therefore essentially tied Melvin's actual turnovers, no one else is even close to them. Paired with the rest of the dominance of his season though, I really do think Melvin is the obvious choice for Defensive player of the year and in my eyes, if I was a voter today, I would put Melvin in my spot for Most Valuable Player as well. That is an insane record breaking year that deserves recognition. Congratulations to the season already, but hopefully the voters agree with this and honor such a season.
I guess besides Melvin, who would have a chance at MVP in my eyes? Well, the obvious other choice would probably be Caliban, the Quarterback who is 2nd in yards, first in touchdowns, while throwing the least interceptions and having the third best quarterback rating. I suppose that isn't a terrible choice either, but I feel like we become too much like the NFL when we only just vote the best quarterback. as the MVP. That shouldn't be the goal. DiNozzo and Tank also have had insane seasons as Running Backs, scoring 16 and 20 touchdowns rushing and both having over 1500 yards. Both also have over 400 yards receiving and more touchdowns there.
We will see where the voters go with it but I am guessing Caliban is the odds on favorite currently for regular normal voters, but I do really hope that Melvin gets some recognition and some looks not just for Defensive Player of the Year but also the MVP award.
