Thanks to @wizard_literal for help on this.
In recent history the ISFL has looked to expand the reach of American Football internationally, it’s in the name of the league after all. From the expansion of the Berlin Salamanders or the rebrand of The Philadelphia Liberty to the Cape Town Crash, bringing the great sport of American Football to countries that celebrate traditional soccer, sorry futbol, has been a great thing! Sports bring friends and family together like nothing else, so as we approach the Season 42 Ultimus expand a bid to Host City Milan, Italy in the stadium of San Siro. With nearly 29 million people in Italy alone watching futbol every year, this host city offers a perfect opportunity for the league to expand its viewership to the beautiful people of Milan.
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, better known as San Siro amongst the locals and in popular media, has been host to a number of FIFA World Cup games. Thus what better place to host another World Championship than a stadium that has the history to back its bid. Having been constructed over 100 years ago in 1925 the stadium originally housed 50,000 visitors! But with expansions in the 1950s the stadium can now host up to 85,000 which would rank 6th all time for Ultimus attendance. How about the actual City of Milan though?
Milan lies in Northern Italy acting as the Capital of Lombardy. While the actual city proper has around 1.4 million residents, second only to Rome, if you include the metropolitan area referred to as Greater Milan the population ranks as one of the largest in the EU with nearly 12.5 million residents. Yes that’s right the number of potential new fans this city bid could reach even outweighs that of the world famous New York City. As a leader in numerous fields such as Art, Fashion, Entertainment, and Commerce Milan would also open up avenues for the ISFL to promote its image in new and exciting ways. The ISFLs first ever Fashion Line is merely one Ultimus bid away with destination Milan.
Tourist Attractions:
In the week leading up to the Ultimus tourists of the potential contenders can spend their time enjoying a number of historical landmarks while dining on some of the finest Italian cuisine.
Cathedral of Santa Maria Nascente
If you want to pray to a higher power for your team’s Ultimus victory, the Milan Cathedral may be the tourist destination for you. Also known as Il Duomo, this landmark is an astonishing work of architecture and history built in the classic Gothic Style while housing up to 40,000 visitors this cathedral dates as far back as the 14th century. A rooftop comprising over 100 stone pinnacles, an exterior decorated with nearly 2500 marble statues, and a series of towering stained glass windows are just some of the features to be admired at this site.
Castello Sforzesco
The Castello Sforzesco is a historic landsite that was home to both the Visconti and the Sforza families who reigned in the 13th to 16th centuries. The former place of rulers is now home to a series of museums which feature an array of decorative art, prehistoric and Egyptian antiquities, musical history, and an armory of weapons and medieval armor perfect for the more barbaric of football fans amongst you.
Teatro alla Scala
For those football fans that prefer to warm their vocal cords up for game time chants what better place to visit other than a world renown Opera House? While space is tight sitting just 2800, shows run constantly from December to early May perfectly aligning with the Ultimus host date in February.
Naviglio
And finally for those looking to take a night out on the town in celebration of their team's victory the historic district of Milan Naviglio offers a variety of nightlife activities with canal-side cafes, music clubs, and frequent music festivals! During the day you can visit a number of antique markets, artists’ workshops or craft stalls and acquire your Ultimus XLII souvenir!
As you can see, Milan would be a great city to host Ultimus XLII. Now, for the best part of a host bid, the logo. This logo shows the Duomo di Milano as the center piece. The clouds are also a nice touch. The outline of Italy shows the country that the Ultimus is being hosted in. Finally, the Italian flag is what brings it all together. Some may say there is too much going on in the logo, but I feel it’s perfect for an Ultimus logo.
