The Colorado Yeti have been forced to turn to ritual sacrifice to appease the Sim Gods to get some damn luck. After the fans rioted and burnt down most of Denver after the loss to NOLA. The team put on a broadcast that they will gladly accept sacrifices to be thrown into a volcano for the Sim God. Turns out people want the team to win more than their own lives. Hundreds of fans showed up and signed waivers and gladly threw themselves into the volcano to bring the Yeti some Sim God luck.
Breaking News: it appears that the sacrifices didn't work as the Yetis bottled it against the Austin snake team and now fans are rioting in the streets again. It looks like the Sim Gods will require more sacrifice. Colorado will have to invade a nearby state to throw more people into the volcano. Good thing we border 7 states mwahahahahaha.
I think the biggest thing that the Sarasota Sailfish can do to help themselves going forward is to play a complete game from beginning to end. Almost all of our games have been close and decided in the final quarter, but we've either let teams get a fast start and then played from behind, or allowed teams to stick around and make trouble instead of putting them away. At some point there's a lapse and we give up a bunch of points in a row. To provide some examples:
Week 1: we built a 13-0 lead against the Wraiths and then allowed 24 straight points through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters. Week 2: we lost to the Otters after they scored 17 straight points in the 3rd quarter. Week 3: dug ourselves a 22-0 hole against Berlin and didn't score until late in the 3rd quarter Week 7: allowed 17 straight points to the Yeti in the 2nd quarter If we can prevent these big swings in games and play more consistently, especially on defense, I think we could see more success than our record so far would suggest.
I'm going to drop this absolutely epic quote from the late John Madden, "Well, when you're playing good football, it's good football and if you don't have good football, then you're not really playing good football. at the end of the game the team with the most points on the board is going to win." And well, at the start of the season we were not playing good dot ball in Sarasota. We came out cold going 1-3, and not putting the most points on the board. That's definitely the biggest thing we need to improve on, making sure we put more points on the board than the other team. I think we are on our way to making that adjustment and securing two consecutive wins, against AZ and BAL, a couple of the top teams in the league. How exactly did we accomplishment that? Wouldn't you like to know. No way I am sharing that information. But it might have helped in some small amount that The Cleet finally secured a couple of sacks, and we were putting more points on the board at the end of the game than the other team. Thank you for asking, on to New York.
Prompt Wrote:With 7 weeks of games down, what sort of improvements/adjustments could your team be making in order to win across the rest of the stretch, or additionally what has been going right and what can you do to keep it going? As this statistical analysis discussed, Austin has gotten unlucky in game outcomes despite having great statistics overall. At 5-4 after week 9, we're in 4th place with one 7-2 and two 6-3 teams ahead of us. We play each of those teams once more this season, so we're definitely in a position where we can make it to the playoffs if things go well. It feels like a ton of our losses have, as has been the case before, related to the sim making poor decisions or having seemingly fluky outcomes. Our week 8 game vs. the Hawks is a great example - we had 3 turnovers to their 0 but still managed to take the game into overtime on a TD and 2-point conversion with 1:02 left in the 4th. We got the ball first, made it to the Baltimore 10, scored first with a field goal, but then let them get a TD with less than a minute left. We had so many chances - they converted a 4th & inches and a 3rd & 3 - but luck was not with us. This is the first game I remember seeing in ISFL where OT actually went FG->TD score too, and it felt like an extra insult that they got the extra point (when in OT if a TD is the first score the sim seems to skip the XP). So anyway, what we need to do is keep up the TPE earning, good defensive play, and good rushing and just work on the passing game and being luckier.
