Happy to get this one out before the next fantasy season drafts have started (ope, guess not). As a reminder, there is little time between draft and call ups and trades to spend the necessary time needed to really pour over rankings, so we do our best and I think we’re pretty good overall, but definitely not perfect. It’s been fun to compare how we did in S43 versus how we did in S44.
I don’t know if I necessarily refined my grading on this one, but here is the gist of what I looked for. Since some positions only used 1 player, I considered the top 6 in that position as POS1. They are what we are looking at for drafting those single positions. For RB’s and WR’s, I looked at the top 18 (6 per position slot, plus 6 for potential flex spot). I weighted more towards being accurate in the top of the position compared to being accurate later on when it's less likely to matter.
On my sheet, I gave a color for our ranking compared to how they finished. Green meant the ranking was close to the actual finish. Yellow meant the ranking was to far off and likely didn’t kill the user if they drafted based off that ranking. Red meant that the ranking was far off, either too high or too low. I weighted the red rankings as harsher if they were too high (eg ranked top 3, finished outside of top 12 versus ranked 12 but finished 3). Definitely not an exact science but feel free to call me out if you see something weird. Hopefully I can explain my thought process there.
The best ranker at a position got 3 points, next best got 2 points, and the last ranker got 1 point. Except for a few positions, as you’ll see later. So let’s get to it!
For quarterbacks, here is how I rank the rankers:
Tuba – 3 points
JDC – 2 points
CROney – 1 point
Tuba comes out hot, getting the top 3 quarterbacks all correct. Not the exact order, but getting Nova at 3 while she finished as THE QB1 was a great start. We all missed on a few, namely Bannings, while JDC is the only one that ranked @negs which is what put him ahead of myself. We were all mostly similar in our thoughts on these as we all got killed by McDummy and Falco. My guess would be that Bannings creeps up closer to the mid-QB1 next season.

Quarterbacks
For quarterbacks, here is how I rank the rankers:
Tuba – 3 points
JDC – 2 points
CROney – 1 point

Running Backs
For running backs, here is how I rank the rankers:
CROney – 3 points (4 total)
Tuba – 2 points (5 total)
JDC – 1 point (3 total)
This group was kind of a best of the lousiest when looking at our ranks compared to the result. We all did pretty decent on the RB2/RB3 tier of players, but didn’t do so hot on the RB1 group, outside of Dux. Being the highest on Kumquat is essentially what I used as the tiebreaker here. The rankings for JHM, Money Tolliver, and Leandre Diarra are what split the decision for Tuba over JDC. We all whiffed on Ace and Jefferson, but sometimes we just need to recognize that opportunities are all that is needed in the sim.
Wide Receivers
For wide receivers, here is how I rank the rankers:
CROney – 3 points (7 total)
JDC – 2 points (6 total)
Tuba – 1 point (6 total)
All of our rankings were very similar on these wide receivers, as well. So I had to nitpick a little bit in terms of how I ranked the rankers on this one. Really, the main difference was that I was highest on Sconnie McSix and Big McLarge Huge and lowest on Mandrews McHollywood. JDC got the next ranking as he nailed both Rocky Moreaux and Austin Morley. Which leaves Tuba as getting last for this group.
Tight Ends
For tight ends, here is how I rank the rankers:
Tuba – 3 points (9 total)
JDC – 2 points (8 total)
CROney – 1 point (8 total)
Man, what a sorry looking group (sorry to those still rallying to make tight ends fun again). Hogmally was a slam dunk, easy #1 here. Bread Bowl being a surprise at number 2 was fun to see, though! Tuba gets the top spot here as he got Hogmally, Salem, and Szymborski right on the nose. JDC and I were very close on the rest of our rankings and he got the nod for being lower on Crashmore.
Offensive Line
For offensive line, here is how I rank the rankers:
Tuba – 3 points (12 total)
CROney – 2 points (10 total)
JDC – 2 points (10 total)
I’m removing the Raya ranking from the decision making as Honolulu signed Remi Musgrave-Smyth to be left tackle after the rankings had been released. And since RMS wasn’t eligible for fantasy this season, they aren’t included on here, either. Anyway, this group was did fairly close to what we thought, actually. Which was nice to see! Tuba got the top spot here for getting Bengal Tigerheart exact and being highest on Meaghor, the number 2 offensive lineman. After that, I honestly could not figure out a good way to break the tie between JDC and myself, so I just gave us 2 points each.
Defensive Line
For defensive line, here is how I rank the rankers:
CROney – 3 points (13 total)
Tuba – 2 points (14 total)
JDC – 1 point (11 total)
Even though I didn’t get the correct #1 defensive lineman correct, I wasn’t far off and did well with the remaining rankings and was the highest on Reed, which worked out (don’t look at the Burner ranking, though). With the low amount of players, we’re bound to have very close rankings, which again occurred here with JDC and Tuba. I went with Tuba on this one as he was lower on Bridge Burner than JDC, that’s really about it. To re-iterate, this grouping of players is least likely to impact your fantasy position.
Linebacker
For linebackers, here is how I rank the rankers:
CROney – 3 points (17 total)
JDC – 2 points (13 total)
Tuba – 2 points (15 total)
I’m giving myself the top spot for this one, even though again, we were all pretty similar on our hits and misses. I got Sledge Hammer and Akaki Akayre perfect, as well as being highest on Creulla de Ville, who finished as number 5. We had another instance where I just couldn’t figure out how to split JDC and Tuba, as Tuba was better on Maxwell Jacob Friedman, while JDC was closer on Creulla de Ville. So I just gave them both 2 points.
Defensive Backs
Kicker
For defensive backs, here is how I rank the rankers:
Tuba – 2 points (17 total)
CROney – 2 points (19 total)
JDC – 2 points (15 total)
This one made me laugh and I think I was pretty much over trying to figure it out. I was closer on Luigi Lanikai while they both nailed Charlie Thorson. After that, it was all pretty much a crapshoot as to our rankings (and I think we all did very well on this group, as a whole). So for that reason, I gave everyone 2 points for this defensive back group.
Kicker
For kickers, here is how I rank the rankers:
Tuba – 3 points (20 total)
CROney – 2 points (21 total)
JDC – 1 point (16 total)
Well we all picked Ray Baker to finish 1st, yet he was only 4th best this season. Womp womp (but he got a ring and that’s all he cares about, so jokes on us). I gave this one to Tuba as he got Swantavius King correct, along with being the closest to the number 1 kicker (who JDC didn’t even rank). Due to that big omission, I had to give myself 2nd and JDC got last for kickers. I was surprised to see JDC last in the kicker group, but my guess is he spent to much time preparing for Honolulu’s run to the Ultimus than he did analyzing fantasy kickers.
Final Rankings
#1: CROney - 21 total points
#2: Tuba - 20 total points
#3: JDC - 16 total points
#1: CROney - 21 total points
#2: Tuba - 20 total points
#3: JDC - 16 total points
So there you have it folks, ranking the rankers for S44. This set of rankings was definitely closer than last times, where I only managed 13 points while Dom ended up with 23. So much closer, and JDC still did a respectable job. Hopefully this presentation of the rankings is easier to digest than attempt last time to use the code function. I don't care about words as much this time since it's not 2.5x media so I'm happy to use the images, as they do help convey the information much easier. Feel free to call me out on anything and I'll hopefully have some sort of explanation. Or maybe I did these while I was drinking. We'll never know!
