The Book of Zen
Chapter 56: Epilogue
Zenzeroni Xystarch Sr. sits at home in his comfortable mansion in his personal office and presses a secret button unveiling an elevator. Senior goes down and when the elevator emerges it is in a large cavern reminiscent of the cavern on Disappointment Island. The ships are all in place and the tavern at the edge of the docks sits quietly where it stood all those years ago.
“No this won’t do” Zenzeroni mutters to himself and presses a control panel at the side cavern entrance and the image of the cavern dissipates to reveal the technology behind it all. Sitting in front of Zenzeroni is screen after screen after screen all showing different areas Zenzeroni Xystarch II had once walked.
“How are you old friend?” Zenzeroni Xystarch Sr. turns around and smiles as he sees his good friend Big Jello.
“Couldn’t be happier! This is the life isn’t it?”
“It’s been an honor to be a part of it.” Big Jello replies.
Seconds later the elevator door dings and more figures emerge. Rebel, Smoky, Drumstick, Violet, and Plank all emerge from the elevator and give Zenzeroni Sr. a hug “I believe you are missing one no?” Senior says looking behind them expectedly.
“I believe he is on the next elevator,” Rebel says with a wink.
Sure enough seconds later the elevator dings again and out comes Captain Crunch with Black Jack Jerky and One Eyed Larry all laughing about something as they step off the elevator.
“Now we can get the party started aye?!” Senior yells.
Everyone yells in agreement as more and more people flow down the elevator and after 15 minutes of a constant stream it finally slows and Senior grabs everyone’s attention making his presence known “Good evening to you all! I want to first thank you all for joining me here today. It is a momentous occasion for us all and while some of our work here is done” Senior looks at One Eyed Larry “Others may have yet another part in this story” Senior shifts his gaze to Doctor Mozarella. “Either way the ratings have been slow but consistent and I can’t have done it without every single one of you. Each plotline added crucial details leaving the viewers on the edge of their seats. Not seen since the Truman Show we have truly revolutionized the television industry. I don’t want to call myself a genius but quite frankly that is what I am. I mean who would have thought to put their own son on a giant television set while making him think it is real by hiring actors to act as though these events around him are really occurring? I still can’t believe he thought becoming a pirate was real but it is due to One Eyed Larry or should I say Mr. Bob Joe that it truly felt like real life. Then for him to believe he could get onto a football team was a genius idea from our writing team and to use a culinary academy of all places as a backdrop was the icing on the cake to make it seem so stupid to everyone but Zenzeroni made it perfect content. After his initial parental contract expired we have now signed him to a lifetime contract with full broadcasting rights on anything ISFL related. The first two seasons, “Pirates” and “Spaghetti School” were smash hits and I look forward to the next season of “The Life of Zen” as we focus more into breaking down his psyche through football. I’m thinking blocked punts, missed field goals, lost championships, rigged games, the possibilities are endless because after all, it’s all a simulation.”

*Author’s Note: After 56 days, 56 chapters, and over 62,000 words the Book of Zen has come to an end. I want to thank anyone and everyone who has read even a sliver of one of these chapters. From people that read one chapter to those that skipped around, to those that read every word it means a lot more than you might think. I started this as a joke stemming from something lemonoppy said and it turned into a project that I put way more time into than I should have. It was tough at some points to find the motivation to continue but not completing the challenge was never in the cards. I also want to give a big thank you to the media graders @xenosthelegend @wetwilleh @Aneeqs and I guess @lemonoppy as well for reading or at least skimming the chapters against their will.
One last note before I close, I will be posting the entirety of the Book of Zen in as few posts as possible tomorrow to make it easier reading for the future and for anyone who was waiting for the entire book to be done before beginning the read. I am also working on a pdf that is in “book format” and will try and post the download in the large media pieces tomorrow if that is of interest to anyone.
Finally like I prefaced at the beginning of the book way back in chapter 1 I am not a writer or author by any means and this is far from award winning work in fact most of this is rough draft work however I also spent a good chunk of time trying to make it the best I could so I will likely be trying to print a copy for myself although finding somewhere to do that is proving more difficult than I thought it would. Anyway, thanks again for reading, and catch you in the next unhinged media piece.
Howdy! I am responsible for quite possibly the greatest kicker to ever grace the ISFL and am the most accomplished media writer the ISFL has ever seen (no need to ask anyone else regarding either of those claims)
