Measuring excitement in sports can be a difficult thing but we all know it when we experience it! So how can one measure excitement in football? Or better yet, Dot Football? In order to do this, I am bringing back the idea of total touchdown yardage that I first used about six months ago.
With this information, we can crown a player in the ISFL as the S46 Most Exciting Player!
The criteria is simple. All we do is add up the yardage gained on touchdowns for individual players and the player with the highest total will be the Most Exciting Player.
But first, let’s go over some of the interesting tidbits of the season.
Baltimore and Arizona tied for the most touchdowns of any team in the ISFL with 50.
Orange County and Berlin tied for the league lead with 34 passing touchdowns.
Cape Town had the most rushing touchdowns in the ISFL with 20.
Baltimore had the most return touchdowns with 6.
The team with the most total touchdown yardage was Colorado with 1091 YDS.
There were 7 touchdowns of 90 yards or more. 4 of them were returns, 2 of them were receiving touchdowns and 1 was a rushing touchdown.
Now onto the list! Below you will find the Top 20 Most Exciting Players of S46.
20. Nick Williams, WR @nickWilliams
Touchdown Yardage: 199 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 8
Average Touchdown Length: 24.9 YDS
We start the list with the latest TE to WR swap and the number 2 target in Berlin. Williams scored all 8 of his touchdowns through the air and had a long of 74 yards. With only one other score of over 50 yards though, the speedy receiver did most of his damage in the red zone.
19. Sem’ga Nah’sim, WR @TheCC
Touchdown Yardage: 200 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 11
Average Touchdown Length: 18.2 YDS
Nah’sim was part of the top scoring receiving duo in Chicago alongside Austin Morley. Tied for 3rd in the ISFL with 11 receiving touchdowns on the season, Nah’sim scored from 30 plus yards out 4 times with a long of 51 yards.
18. Octavio Pérez, WR @Raven
Touchdown Yardage: 201 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 8
Average Touchdown Length: 25.1 YDS
While the Hahalua went into full on tank mode, Pérez was able to show that age is just a number. The S36 veteran put up the high yardage total of his career. While Pérez had a long touchdown of only 49 yards, 5 of his 8 touchdowns came from outside the red zone.
17. Hank Mardukas, WR @Chicken Lips
Touchdown Yardage: 203 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 8
Average Touchdown Length: 25.4 YDS
The ISFL leader in receiving yards and receptions lands at number 17 on this list. A long touchdown of 65 yards pales in comparison to some on this list but Mardukas was consistently making big plays with only 1 of the 8 touchdowns coming from less than 10 yards out.
16. Reginald Shrubbery, RB @shrub02
Touchdown Yardage: 210 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 19
Average Touchdown Length: 11.1 YDS
Our first running back on this list, Shrubbery was a force through the air and on the ground. With 7 receiving touchdowns and 12 rushing touchdowns, the Orange County lead back was all over the field. His long touchdown was just 33 yards but with 19 touchdowns on the year, the yardage added up quickly.
15. Zaphod Beeblebrox, WR @Mooty99
Touchdown Yards: 213 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 9
Average Touchdown Length: 23.7 YDS
One of three Copperheads on this list, Beeblebrox scored all 9 touchdowns through the air and had a long of 51 yards. Heating up as the year progressed, his last three touchdowns in the regular season were from over 35 yards out.
14. Thor Bǫllrsveifla, QB @Thor
Touchdown Yards: 215 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 7
Average Touchdown Length: 30.7 YDS
The rookie scrambler QB started the year with a bang in Week 1 and ran his way all the way onto this list. The only player here with all touchdowns coming on the ground, Bǫllrsveifla also was able to record that elusive 99 yard touchdown run.
13. Delores Bickerman, WR @Kyamprac
Touchdown Yards: 219 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 9
Average Touchdown Length: 24.3 YDS
Bickerman narrowly beats out teammate Zaphod Beeblebrox on this list but is still not the highest rated Copperhead! With a long touchdown of 69 yards, Bickerman was able to score from all over the field with five of the 9 touchdowns coming from outside the red zone.
12. Shane Turnbull, WR @Symmetrik
Touchdown Yards: 221
Total Touchdowns: 10
Average Touchdown Length: 22.1 YDS
Being the top receiver on the most run-heavy team in the ISFL would not seem like a spot for success. However, Turnbull had enough explosive touchdowns to put him on this list including a long of 70 yards and another score from 51 yards.
11. Big McLarge Huge, WR @Hydrium
Touchdown Yards: 227 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 11
Average Touchdown Length: 20.6 YDS
McLarge Huge is on this list on the back of 3 big plays and the volume of receiving touchdowns (3rd in the league). His long of 76 yards was tied for the longest touchdown of Orange County’s season.
10. Thomas Passarelli, WR @Tmoney6996
Touchdown Yards: 251 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 7
Average Touchdown Length: 35.9 YDS
If we had stopped this list after week 4, Passarelli would have topped this list without much competition. 231 of his touchdown yards came through the first four games including both a 90 yard touchdown and a 92 yard touchdown in back to back games. A relatively quiet second half holds Passarelli from claiming any of the top spots.
9. Sean Robinson, WR @18situaseans
Touchdown Yards: 253 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 8
Average Touchdown Length: 31.6 YDS
Robinson exemplified exciting play when he hit paydirt this season. 6 of the 8 touchdowns on the season came from over 20 yards out. He created quite the 1-2 punch with his teammate just two spots ahead of him.
8. Jimmy Ryder, WR @AJW
Touchdown YDS: 257 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 11
Average Touchdown Length: 23.4 YDS
Ryder started out on fire with 3 touchdowns on 130 touchdown yards in his first two games. While the rest of the season didn’t continue at the same frenetic pace, his 59 yard touchdown in Week 15 cemented his place in the top 10.
7. Frank Dux, RB @ComebackZak
Touchdown Yards: 268 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 20
Average Touchdown Length: 13.4 YDS
The ISFL’s S46 touchdown leader filtered in enough explosive plays to work his way near the top of the list. A true dual-threat, Dux had 12 touchdowns on the ground and a career-high 8 touchdowns through the air. Given that 14 of his 20 touchdowns came from inside the 10 yard line, it’s understandable why the leading scorer didn’t find his way to the top.
6. Eli Prince, WR @Rufio_NZ
Touchdown Yards: 274 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 8
Average Touchdown Length: 34.3 YDS
With 5 touchdowns of over 30 yards, Prince continued to find weaknesses in opponents' secondaries. With a long of 77 yards, the IA legend continued to grow this season as Prince set personal bests in receptions and yards.
5. Jeff Newman, RB @Lumosityfan
Touchdown Yards: 290
Total Touchdowns: 10
Average Touchdown Length: 29.0 YDS
Is this guy really a running back? Newman scored 8 of his 10 touchdowns through the air. With 6 scores coming outside the red zone, the most explosive player on the Copperheads was a threat to score any time he touched the ball.
4. Mister Hogmally, TE @iStegosauruz
Touchdown Yards: 293 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 8
Average Touchdown Length: 36.6 YDS
A tight end!? Those of you familiar with Hogmally’s career will know that this comes as no surprise. While regression has taken its toll, Hogmally showed out this season with 3 touchdowns of over 65 yards leading to the highest average touchdown length on this list.
3. National Treasure, WR @electrictree
Touchdown Yards: 364 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 10
Average Touchdown Length: 36.4 YDS
Treasure was electric this season including a 108 yard kickoff return and 2 receiving touchdowns over 70 yards. With both Treasure and Hogmally, the Yeti were able to score from anywhere on the field.
2. Emile Charles, WR @Number 82
Touchdown Yards: 373 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 13
Average Touchdown Length: 28.7 YDS
The ISFL’s receiving touchdown leader, Charles lands in the second spot. With 4 touchdowns of 50 yards or more, Charles was a force to be reckoned with and showed off the abilities of that return specialist archetype. Though playing for the most pass-happy team in the ISFL (seriously, Berlin only ran the ball 20% of the time).
1. Benji Aguilera, WR @CROney3
Touchdown Yards: 380 YDS
Total Touchdowns: 12
Average Touchdown Length: 31.7 YDS
The most explosive of Arizona’s trio of receivers, Aguilera earns the top spot and can be considered the Most Exciting Player of S46. With touchdowns of 83 yards, 75 yards, and 68 yards, Aguilera was able to blend volume with explosiveness and his spot at the top is well deserved.
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think about this list!
